I often reduce my staves by splitting wood that isn’t a bow off of them. It makes the reduction job a lot quicker and often even though that wood was that bow. It might be a different bow.

I had a side split from my recent finger tiller experiment bow. I was pretty sure I could find a kids bow in it

It was very twisted, and definitely not straight. Thin rings but it had one down about four rings that was a little thicker. I could see if I chased that ring it would also help line things up better

Then I put it on my caul to take it

Amazing what a little heat does with Osage.

I reduced it to really close to final dimensions. Shortened it to 42” and got ready to put tip overlays on.

I was lucky enough to receive some exotic wood scraps in a drawing.

After some rough shaping I glued them on and then finished shaping them.

Then I finished tillering.

I love making these kids bows. I just think it’s lots of fun.

I still have to do some finishing work on it but here’s the full draw

And nothing goes to waste. You can make a bow out of just about any scrap piece.

Yes you can Pearl and it’s really good practice.

It does help with the cost of your wood to.

I like trying to make them look exactly like an adult bow.

I will finish this one up when I get a chance.

I think it already has a new home.

Thanks everyone.

Wayne I think you might be on to something there. I really like making and shooting these little bows. It does bring out the kid in me.

Bob as fast as they are growing. I’m sure they will outgrow it in a couple years. We should put a little wear and tear on it though and it’ll still be fun to shoot even after they outgrow it

Well done Sir, beautiful bow from what was scrap. Awesome work in getting it straight too. I've got 4 grandkids waiting for me to make them one, they've outgrown the first bows that were maybe 8#. Love it Brian, so will whoever gets it.

I enjoy watching you turn a stick into a bow.

Yes, some young archer is going to be excited. Thanks for passing the torch.
