I had permission to cut some Osage on a small property so went down and harvested some for future use. The prop owners have a 6 year old son so I thought as a thank you I would make him a small bow. I have not gifted to him yet as I need to get arrows for it, but hopefully he will like it.

Specs are 45” TtT, 15#@15”. I pulled it to 20” on my tillering tree to check for durability and it seemed to handle the stress fine at 22#.

Very nice gesture on your part. Great looking bow also.

I love making kids bows. I often reduce my adult bows by splitting off wood that makes a kids bow.

I have one I’m working on now from a side split off my finger caliper bow.

Have it pretty close now but need to let it reacclimatize after heat corrections.

They really teach you a lot about tillering as you don’t have many inches of working limb so you need to get all of it bending you can. Especially knowing they will probably eventually be overdrawn

Nice gesture.

Those little kids selfbows can be impressive in many of the same ways an adult's bow can.

Fun to make and fun to shoot too.

beautiful bow Brian, I need to make a couple like that for some of the smaller grandkids. for many people, that is a harder build than an adult. a way cool bow for a kid to get excited over and maybe for life. Jerry

Mention to him that this {his bow} was trapped inside that tree you cut on his parents property. He might be amazed to hear that. Once again good job.

Thanks guys, it was a fun build. Definitely not much wiggle room on something that small. Hopefully he will enjoy it as much I enjoyed building it.

I have found that kids bows are harder to make than adult bows because when you get in the 15# range one scrape too many can really affect the tiller in a negative way.

You did a great job on that bow, perfect tiller.

That's a great bow and a great gift! Jawge

I finally got a complete set put together for the young man. Now to find time to get together and gift it to him, and give him and his folks some instruction on its care and use.

I was gifted some old 1/4” arrows that I cleaned up and refletched, made a small arm guard and quiver. The little 15# bow really spits out those 1/4” arrows. I used some electrical shrink wrap on the string serving in place of the rubber no gloves to keep them bulk down.

Wow Brian, very awesome set up! I finished my kids osage self bow yesterday in time for some of the grands to try it out. They all loved it and didn't want to stop shooting to go to their soccer game. I used river cane arrows with dull nail heads, a very basic arrow for them to be rough with. I have a young father that I will be seeing if he is interested in a selfbow. So fun to get others started. Keep it up my Brother
