So I got a new to me Black Widow MAII 58@28. I draw 27 so if I remember correctly that’s 55 at my draw. I’m wanting to shoot carbons. Can you fellas give me suggestions on what spine to purchase.

This will almost be a "grab a bag of popcorn" thread. I'll respond with my opinion, how's that? Recently a good friend of mine bought a KB from Black Widow. We found that the riser was cut beyond center and he could shoot a MUCH stiffer spine in that bow and still get good flight. He used a high speed camera and filmed at the riser and just past the riser. With this information I have an older MA in my possession currently. It is 60@27. Strange enough I can shoot 340 spine arrows cut to 29" with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain points out of that bow. My draw is 27". Yes the insert adds substantial amount of weight that breaks down the spine some, but remember it also creates a "footer" that does not flex, so you lose roughly1" of arrow. Anyhow, this alone will get argued. I don't care. Like I started. This is my opinion.

For your case I would start out with a 400 spine arrow maybe 30" long and depending on what total arrow tip weight you want, go from there. I would be willing to bet you could cut them down to 28.5-29 inches long and with 150 or so grains in the nose, that arrow will be fairly close. This also depends on how fluid or static our release is and what you want to be able to do.

Good Luck and congrats on your bow. -Bones

I must have posted right behind SBC. He may be right, and with most recurves I would say 500 but after my experience, I always step up one spine stiffer with black widow bows.

JMO, it depends on what you have in mind for an all-up arrow weight. And whether you want a specific arrow length or you don’t care so much as long as it’s tuned. I guess the first question really has to be whether you have access to a cut-off saw or not. It’s kind of a nuisance to try to tune via shaft length if you don’t have access to one of those.

If you want to go over about 9 GPP, you’re probably going to have to go with a 400 spine (or 500 with weight tubes). I would probably go with 400s and heavier points for hunting and 500s with lighter points (and weight tubes as needed) for target use, but #55 net is kind of a handful as target bows go.

I forgot to add that if it’s 62” and I shoot split finger and canted. And yes, I was looking at shooting 150 grains.

What did the previous owner use?

It's MADE 3/16" past center. That is to the bare sight window. In all likelihood that's not how the OP is shooting it.

Regardless, cut past center will require a stiffer arrow. I think 400s would work better as well.

"Regardless, cut past center will require a stiffer arrow." A stiffer arrow than what? It depends how the OP has the bow set up to shoot. If you take a bow cut 1/2" past center and put a 3/4" side plate on the sight window then it isn't past center and it WON'T require a stiffer arrow.

If the bow is cut 1/2'past center and then has a 1/2" side plate put on it, it will require the SAME arrow as any other bow of comparable performance that is cut to center and being shot with no side plate.

Black Widows are cut inside center, but adding a side plate decreases that to just about center or a tad inside. For 150 grain tips, and a 27" draw, I would go with a 28" arrow of 500 spine for carbon. If Aluminum, with that same setup, then we are talking around a 2018 at 28" I have no room for arrows that stick out past the back of the bow three or four inches, you can spine much closer than that anyway and have a nicer manageable setup. I'm talking a low stretch string of good quality make.
