I really enjoy animal in nature pictures. This big boy showed up this morning on one of our cameras. What a gorgeous animal!

Do you have any pictures to share?

I usually get pinched trying to take the picture but here are a few I've managed to get.

This little buck came into a grunt call a couple years ago. When he couldn't locate the buck that was challenging him, he laid down about 5 yards from the tree I was in and took a nap. This buck isn't legal to shoot where I was hunting due to point restrictions.

Box Call, the idea that you haven't yet figured out what is or isn't allowed on this site, in spite of the fact that you've been directed to its rules an infinite number of times tells us you're purposely being obtuse, obstinate, ignorant, obstructive... or we're being quite naive. Which is it do you suppose?

Shortdraw, the lion picture was a few years back and was a real nice female. I was alone with two cold nosed blueticks hunting the rough country on foot towards spring with the blue dogs cast out. It was late afternoon when I spotted a track on the edge of the melted out snow line heading across a bare south slope.

The dogs got a whiff of it too, and started working the track in the bare ground as it it headed up the ridge toward the top by some rock outcroppings. They were working it slow in the dirt and mud and then all heck broke lose. She’d been laid up under a ledge and scooted out across the bare ground for the timber.

She didn’t have any kittens and only ran about a mile before climbing this tree. I was able to go up a tree next to her to get the photo. She never got excited at all. After leashing Blue and Belles up, we bid her farewell and head out for a long walk to the truck as the sun set.

This is one of the best pictures I ever got. And in all those years, and dozens of lions in trees and rocks and one cave, the only lions ever shot were with a camera. Some of the best memories of my life, and those of my sons and friends.

I greatly enjoy all the pictures above and especially like the bobcats. Thanks everyone.

While we were coming around a creek's bend, Lucy took a photo of this guy. We'd just gotten into the canoe and were only about 200 yards from the cabin. It was early morning and foggy, and neither of us had our camera settings changed from the evening before. Lucy called this photo a happy mistake. This guy saw us, rose as solidly as the sun, and then disappeared into the poplars behind him, pretending to be clouds.

I see all these pictures and know each one is just a snapshot of a lifetime of being outdoors and loving what we do there. Every one has a story...and each of us here have thousands of those stories and mental images to go along with them. We take it for granted, but a lifetime of memories is its own reward.

And we are all very rich in many ways. Thanks to you all.

In case you’re not sure it’s a black squirrel in the above picture. I had 3 at one time and texted my buddy who was about 100 yards away that I had 3 and he had one over by him same time.

This place had a few non-native residents to say the least. It was entertaining and all critters were VERY healthy. Also, Not one of the million so called "Hunting Ranches" down there.

Codjigger - please please share the info for that hunting guide. That would be a great hunt for sure!

As someone said above, each of these photos represent countless hours in the wilds. Even if a trail camera photo. I put a lot of effort into trail camera photography and many years take more than 100,000 images.

Jeffer - Lucy’s photos are great. She has real talent! Yours are excellent too. More please.

Joey - thanks for the illustration of why I do not go south of my driveway. Copperheads have been found about 10 miles south of here. Years ago was invited to hunt a unique opportunity and was excited to go until I learned about the copperheads and rattlesnakes. No thank you.

4 finger - great photos as usual. No fish photos?

Bernie - unique photo of the buck packing the opponent’s antler. That might have been painful for both if locked together. Even more unique that he is still carrying.

I will post one more. This photo is cut from a recently captured short video. This buck trudged along like he was completely exhausted and worn out. The rut can be very hard on them. I shot a very nice buck tearing up a group of scrapes on November 28, 2022 - more than a month after the excitement gets serious here. He was large, very healthy, had a big neck, and was completely lean. He had not one morsel of food in his system. He was living in an area where there is abundant food. Interestingly, he did not have even a tiny chip on even the tip of a tine. Also not even one injury from fighting. I suspect that he had quite a dominant attitude to intimidate other bucks because otherwise he would not have been tearing up those scrapes.

From: Wayne Hess
Date: 28-Jan-23

Maybe you will get a better picture to see how it’s attached before he drops his antlers, very odd Bernie. The other buck probably didn’t fair to well in the fight,
