For those interested, there is now a Damon Howatt website. You can sign up for their newsletter & early access to their 2023 catalog prior to ATA Show. I heard from Mike Bush that the talented new bowyer they brought on before the shutdown is still with them. I’ve been a big fan of DH bows for many years, so I’m pleased to hear that the brand will continue on.

From: DeerDave
Date: 05-Jan-23

Sweet. So they as of right now are not producing bows or are they? And any insidte into wait time?

From: Lowcountry

As per Damon Howatt facebook post 5 days ago -

—2023 Catalog coming soon! —Updated with better pricing for 2023 —Damon Howatt itself was split from Martin and is now under new ownership so it can fully focus on the traditional bows and give it 100% of the attention it deserves! —Much much more! Stay tuned!

Their new website is https://damonhowatt.com

That’s excellent news! Happy they parted ways with Martin and are back to being their own traditional entity.

Great news! Where will they be located?

From: bigB
Date: 10-Jan-23

I cannot find prices anywhere, I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. If they are somewhat close to the Bear prices that will be good. I thought I saw someone say the Hunter was like $900, if that is true I will just order a new Wes Wallace Mentor but if I can get a Hunter for 600-700 I might just order one, or the Super Elite is awesome looking too. Hopefully Martin will be back the way they use to be.

From: fdp
Date: 10-Jan-23

"Where will they be located?"....hard for those who don't do Facebook to get any of that kind of information. So because of that I have no idea.

From: Timbuck2
Date: 10-Jan-23

bigB, I just looked at the Howatt website. The Hunter price is listed at MSRP $765.00.

From: YamahaYG68
Date: 10-Jan-23

"Where will they be located?"

I think they may be in the process of selecting, securing and or setting up a manufacturing facility.

This process can be challenging; takes time, effort and funds.

My Google Earth search for the address on the last page of he catalogue indicates a residential area. So I think "setting up shop" is a work in progress at the moment.

Its a big job, I hope i goes well.

Sawtooth, that's not my copy. It's a photo from Damon Howatt's FB page. I have received what they call an advance copy in digital form, which I downloaded & printed since I still like paper myself. You can request it from their website. They have a few new bow models (both high & low end models & also kid's bows) in addition to the Hunter, Mamba, Savannah & Bamboo Viper. Clint

In August of 2022 someone put a screenshot here that I think was from the DH Facebook page.

In that screenshot it was mentioned that the location in Washington had been lost due to the inability to come to an agreement suitable to all/both parties.

Additionally it was also mentioned that the equipment and was being moved and new location was being sought.

Had a Mamba in the '80s, great bow. There was talk of making a 64" Hunter. That might be a nice bow. I've come to like a bit longer bow these days.

From: Butch 72

I ordered the Stick in 45lb . I can have fun with it and if it all works out I have three Grandsons who will be teenagers in a few years . One is absolutely nuts about going hunting. He has a trail cam setup in the woods. I bet He will be shooting it at 14. I sure don't see anybody giving away any decent bows today.

From: Uncle Lijiah
Date: 11-Jan-23

Jimmyjumpup & others, I'll preface this by saying I'm not a business insider, but I follow DH closely on FB & I'm FB friends with Mike Bush. I believe the post bankruptcy period of turmoil in design and workmanship was roughly between the years 2012 and 2018. I'm not saying their bows were bad at all, but I could tell a difference. DH got it together and the high quality of limb tip shaping & limb tapers (including tapered lams), riser shaping & fit and finish, really good clear glass, etc. returned before the virus lockdown. The lockdown caused problems for Martin Archery, who owned DH. DH recently split from Martin and is now a separate business entity. I wish both companies great success & a comeback as great as Bear Archery after their economic setback years ago. Clint

They have a presence at the ATA trade show, so I suspect they are pretty serious about getting back in the business properly. Anyway, they and Bear are the only ones who stuck to making recurves and longbows after every other American company dropped them. I hope they get healthy again and contribute some of their great bows, new models and older ones. It's easy to be a critic when you don't have a dog in the hunt, as we see here all the time by some folks. Give them an opportunity, we're not even two years past that pandemic debacle.

I wish them all the best. I finally got a hold of a Howatt Hunter after many years of wanting one and have been very pleased with it. In fact I like it more than my custom. It's encouraging to see the Hunter model less than $800. If the new ones shoot as well as the one I have it's worth every bit of it.

From: DeerDave
Date: 19-Jan-23

Has anyone who ordered bows from Damon Howatt hear anything back yet? I know it hasn't been long but I'm still hanging on by a thread so to speak. I hope they do have bows ready to ship in one to three months. I have enough money saved to buy one that I have reserved, and need the shooting time before hunting season in late September. I may have to find something else this year if they don't produce some bows like they are saying they will. Im just a rambling on...Any thoughts?!

From: fdp
Date: 19-Jan-23

I'd say contact them and ask them. That way you will know.

From: Butch 72
Date: 19-Jan-23

It's hard to wait but they said 1-3 months and I won't be surprised if We don't hear something until after early February. they no doubt have some bows built all ready. Lord Knows how many orders they may have received.

From: DeerDave
Date: 19-Jan-23

Butch 72....I can't imagine how many EARLY sign ups they had for bows. Jib security forsure.

fdp....waiting on a reply back.

Good Morning gentlemen, I have had an e-mail exchangw with the new owner of Damon Howatt. He stated that the acquisition was relatively new and their main focus "is to ramp up production". he further states that demand has been "through the roof". With all that going on they are setting up a lot of their factory for higher efficency, and that takes time. He appreciates our patience and understanding. The way I see it, any new business takes time to set up to run smoothly and their attendance at the ATA event confirmed, in my mind, that they were on the right path.

Hope this helps.

On the primitive stone archery podcast featuring Damon howatt they said the warranty was twice as long as any other production bow company on the market. What ever that means.

Bodnik is 30 years so howatt is 60 years? Doubtful

From: YamahaYG68
Date: 12-Feb-23

The podcast I listened to was interesting, but I did not hear anything about securing a production facility, yet.

It is no small effort to set a new manufacturing outfit up, so I think this will come with time and is likely in the works.

I did sounds like they were able to get the equipment from the old plant, which is a big accomplishment, and may have some of the original bowyers line up.

From: MStyles

Man, those are some good looking longbows. Tempting for sure.

From: Hatrick Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

The DC Conviction almost looks like they tapered the belly side of the site window like some of the early 60's knife edge risers. I sure hope so. That was classy.

I sent them a email a few days ago asking about the warranty and wait times. I have yet to hear back but when I do I’ll update it

Lol

From: Droptine Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 24-Feb-23

I sent them a email and never heard back. I then called , got no answer so I left a voicemail. I received a text from someone saying they were busy and asked if they could call back later. Which is completely understandable and told them that was fine and texts were fine too if that worked.

I never did hear back from anyone. I was really interested in getting on the list for a bow and just wanted to know what their warranty was, what the estimated wait time was and a few questions about a model. Maybe they’re still trying to get everything straightened out but I wish them the best.

Hey guys,

This is Josh here, the owner of Damon Howatt. I noticed @droptine was having some trouble getting a response from us. I am not sure where you sent the email, but I'd like if you could please shoot me a text to follow up. I've recorded everyones numbers who has called me personally and I am working diligently to get back to people, but this last week I caught a nasty cold, so that has delayed things.

I am striving to be as attentive as possible regarding everyones inquiries, but I am literally receiving hundreds of emails and calls. I never expected this and probably should not have put my personal phone number on the catalog, but I really wanted to be as personable as possible.

I do apologize if I am not answering everyone in the necessary timeframe, but if you can be patient, I am dealing with a LOT of messages and if I miss someone, please just keep trying, or give me a nudge, I will respond to my best ability within 24-48 hours.

We are still setting up parts of our shop, we already have several locations secured and were transporting some of the remaining equipment to our current location.

I greatly appreciate everyones patience as things are hectic. As can be expected when taking over a business just literally a few weeks ago.

Thank you again for your support,

-Josh

I guess it doesn’t get much better than that…the owner of the company responded to your post!

From: DamonHowatt
Date: 24-Feb-23

If anyone here doesn't get a response from me, try waiting 24-48 hours, but if you still don't get a response, please just try again. And I am trying to not answer people on weekends to protect family time, so if I ignore calls during late times or during weekends, I promise I am not trying to ignore anyone. I just gotta set personal boundaries as I am sure everyone can understand.

My personal number to text or call is 541-870-4661 and email is [email protected].

If at all possible, I'd prefer calls only between 10am to 6pm (PST TIME) -- But you can always try anytime :)

Thanks again for everyones patience and understanding as we make good on the Howatt legacy.

Gentlemen, I have enjoyed a pleasant and informative string of e- mails with Josh since the ATA show. As a commercial real estate broker I was involved with the relocation or moving of dozens of businesses, both retail and industrial-light assembly. What Josh has accomplished in a few weeks leads me to believe the man doesn't sleep. The fact that he took time to respond here should be proof positive that he has sincere concern for his future clientele. I'm giving him all the time he needs as I feel it will be good for US.........but I get the Conviction First !

Did I miss something? Wasn’t there someone posting as DH Mike and owner of Damon Howatt. Now Josh with the handle Damon Howatt is the owner? I’m confused but I hope whoever is resurrecting Damon Howatt brings them back and they start producing quality bows again.

Hey guys, for those not receiving the catalog, please send me an email directly or via message on our contact page, I will manually send it again. Sometimes our emails don't come through due to spam filters, but this has nothing to do with timeliness or competence to send. I am really sorry for those that didn't get an email with the catalog. Please shoot me a message so I can get it sent out!

I have to say that things are slower at first. A lot of the equipment we purchased from the previous company ended up arriving broken due to improper shipping. We had to re- purchase a lot of machinery and personally I have invested over $140,000+ myself just to ensure all of our equipment is as high-end as the products we produce.

Things are delayed a bit, but we are very excited and our quietly will be top notch, or not at all! — If anyone has a questions, please reach out on Instagram, or via our website, I will post a video discussing some of the exciting challenges we have already overcome and the reasons for any delays!

Thank you again to everyone supporting me as I work hard to continue the legacy that Howatt has led in the past, now into the future!
