I’m just wondering what this person used to wrap the end of the fletching with. I know many use sinew or silk thead. Could I use brownell no 4 nylon to wrap there as well? Just talking about the first 1/4” or so of the fletching. And then do you smear a little glue on it? Any old glue? Thanks!

You can use anything.
I've used real sinew, artificial sinew, serving material, dental floss, flyvtying thread and other things. I give the wrap a coat of clear fingernail polish or head cement but anything will work including fletching cement.

What fdp said. Doesnt have to be anything special. Making replica arrows for a warbow I used regular button thread from the store. They make it very thin and comes in every color. Use a "whip finnish" or "tuck finnish" (I think thats what its called) and trim off the excess, paint with a coat ot two of clear fingernail pollish.

It will work fine pretty easy to wrap the feather and wrap the back also. Agree with fingernail polish easyer to controll. Less mess and looks nice to.i tie fishing flys and make leaders with nylon. Holds up good.

Thanks for the info! What’s the easiest way to tie off the wrapped thread cleanly? Are those “tuck finnish” or or “whip finnish “ hard to do without a fly tying jig?

Take a 12" pcs thread fold it in half. Lay it on shaft running with shaft. Wrap over it you want to be going toward loop end of other string. Once you get it all wrapped run thread threw loop. Now pull tag ends on other end tell loop pulls thread threw. Keep some tension on wrap thread tell it pole threw. It like a nail knot only using thread to pull it threw.

Bigdog 21, that is what I've been calling a "tuck finnish". I wonder if there is a more correct name for it, but it works well. There is a video of it on Youtube under "Richard Head Longbows" Whip finnish is like what we use to tie off a string serving.
