There is no perfect anything that everyone agrees on. What is perfect for some is hated by others. One guy is nothing but a recurve guy, another a LB and yet there are even variables within them.
3 under or split fingers or even a release. A tab or a glove, type of arrow and we won't even bring up broadheads. Camo or no, type, tree or ground. Quivers, types, on or off, back or hip. And this is just a few of them, there are a lot more.
We vary so much in so many ways for so many reasons. Short, tall. skinny, plump (full figured) younger or older and even older than that. Physical abilities, experience level and then there are types of game hunted due to location. Southern or Northern, dry or wet.
So many differences and yet we are still alike in so many ways. Most of us are hopefully, ethical hunters but there are bound to be a few slob hunters out there. And yet, in spite of these differences, many are ready to help another. Some are very generous in many ways, a refreshing thing indeed.
While some may be more able to afford things, others may be more restricted in purchasing abilities. Some even make their own bows, from laminated to selfbows. Some make their own strings, many their own arrows as well. This also means that there are those that make a lot of their equipment from knives to stands and seats.
But the common thing is the love of the Stick and String and shooting them. Even in this, some only target shoot or 3D shoot while many hunt. Yeah, we may be all different in so many ways and yet we are like a big family. Did I mention that to each of us, our way is the best way? And it probably is for us LOL. Dan we are not being watched but we are being read. I sure hope so anyway. I would hate to think no one ever read my posts. What a big waste of time that would be.
As tradslinger so eloquently put it, archery is a very wide subject. Please try to stay within its boundary. We don't want to be without you again. You were missed. Besides we had to go through Ole George just to contact you. :<)
AK, Dans hat looked good on you, once someone got you up right. You ought to be able to sneak up on those bucks & bulls now. >>>----> Ken

That's why we hang out here with each other. In spite of our differences, some of which might be significant, we have some pretty cool stuff in common. We share and are responsible for a timeless, honorable heritage that was a vital part of humanity and that's not a small thing.
I'll put it this way... there are folks here I would not get along with in 'real life' as friends, neighbors, or family, but if we talk about and share classical archery, including our differences therein in a respectful manner, the other stuff has practically no bearing. I like that. Lots of good folks here. I'm thankful for this site and the people here. Have been since the day I found it. That's why I'm glad the Bowsite big game forum has stopped with the political crap. I'll spend more time there now.
Keep the arch in archery.

No, but if he is dedicated to the most challenging weapon with the smallest chance of success when any other would bring success quicker and easier, that speaks a bit about what makes him the man he is.

If Pope, Young and White had to have depended on their archery hunting skills in Africa, to feed themselves and their crew, they would have starved to death. Per S E White in "Lions in the Path". bvd

I agree. To each his own. And if it works for you it ain’t wrong. I have learned much from much wiser men (and women) on here. I have used much of this information to find myself understanding fundamentals better. Improving my accuracy and consistency. Great bunch of of generous people on here and in our brotherhood.

Nope. But if you’re going to post a picture of yourself online, you should probably at least wear pants!.

One of the reasons I like traditional archery, is the learning and liking is an ongoing process. I use to think I had nailed down everything I liked In terms of bow, arrow, etc. Now, every week, month, year, I discover more about all of that. So, it’s definitely the journey. I’m never bored with this sport.

I learned a long time ago at work,(CNC machining custom aluminum racing heads and making the programs on how to do it) that even a lowly simple janitor with a fifth grade education can solve a problem that 5 (highly educated men) could not. We all can learn something from each other, gaining things that we probably would not otherwise except by or thru someone we have never met. Even friendships have been made long distance via the internet and this site. Yes, many of us probably wouldn't hunt with some, just clashes with personalities and so on. Some, like me, have hunted a majority of their time alone and that's kind of the way that we are. And yet we still have common ground, may be thin at times but it is still there.

Have been on this group for a long time and yes I "WAS" trad bow only guy for about 10 years. Life changes things change people change. I've always liked the values of this sight but recently I'm getting bad vibes. The lack of empathy by some for the Brady Ellison theft. The op's of this thread complete absence of any other form of hunting or target shooting other than the stick & string......
Some of Y'all are so high up on that soapbox that ya had better put on an oxygen mask before you pass out.

For me, this site has been that wise and sharing "old-timer" mentor that no longer lives down the street, or even the same town. The DIY nature of trad archery requires the passing of knowledge from the "knowing" to the "learning" so that we cultivate the next generation of "know-ers". I have learned a lot from the many, thorough, and thus generous responses I have received to my inquiries on this site, and I am very grateful. So thank you to all that have taken the time, and made the effort for me.
Have a happy, healthy, and joyous holiday season. Be well.
Regards, WMM

I have been here quite awhile, and this series of thoughts is certainly one of the most sensible, reasonable and pleasant that I have seen. It was a relief to see such a long sequence of positive, inclusive and non confrontational thinking with substance.
Thank you, guys. Really

Hopefully this link works. It embodies all that this brotherhood is about. After seeing it I looked back in the archives and there is mention of Grizzly Jim going to ETAR 2018 but no details of how it came about and the reception he got.

I never intentionally try to get people to argue or disagree, there is more than enough of that in this world. It always seems that no matter what is said, someone will see it far differently than what was intended. But that is what happens when dealing with such different backgrounds as we are. We are as a whole, quite different from each other and yet kind of not. I am not a purist it has to be this way or that way. I am about helping others to get involved with archery, heck with a lot of things. Our world needs a lot more hands on in so many areas, especially our youth. We have the ability to pass on a lot of info and help to others, if we can overlook things and not get so hung up on things that when this life is over, meant very little. But there are some very good people here that do some very awesome things for others. And that's what this world needs badly. Most of us love this sport and enjoy it regardless of our incomes or abilities. It's an awesome hobby for sure and it even can bring home soething good to eat.

Thank you for this post tradslinger and all. As a passionate bunch, it’s good to see the respect most have in this community as a whole towards each other. After working in many industries over the years, now servicing bicycles in a high end retail setting, I’ve come to realize that it takes all kinds to keep all of this going, not matter the sport or passion.
Literally my mantra on a daily basis, it take all kinds! I’m consistently amazing at the spectrum of customers, from the nearly homeless with just a few cents in their pocket needing a tube fixed to get to work, or people walking into the shop pay 13k for a full carbon custom bicycle. They are really not all that different when it comes down to it.
This archery community is awesome and appreciated!
