The pic below represents the extent of my shed antler collection and what I have done with them. The rudimentary knife handle was made from a broken antler I found in a field during spring gobbler season. I made the display base for the knapped knife but one of my in-laws made the knife. The rattle contraption I made after reading about it a few years ago (I think it was Mike Minton's book) but I have yet to try it out. It is meant to dangle from the end of the bow rope and just give it a tug now and then.

I'm thinking about chopping and building from my hunting collection and was hoping to generate some ideas. What suggestions do you have or what have you made from antler. Input and pics appreciated. Thanks

What kind of stone are your knives made of Jon? I didn't know you could get so much color.

From: Jon Stewart

Red and blues are fiber optic aka phone/computer line and the light colored one is Opalite (fake opal glass).

I might make one of those rattling gizmos, I remember reading about it. Made sense as you get some ground noise as well. Picture of knife is not one I made but unique all the same.

It did seem like a good idea and sounds good in the basement. :) I just need to get it out there and try it.

4 big ones are wood. Rest antlers.

I only had one set of sheds and got a set that was knocked off a road kill, so tied the four together for rattling from a tree stand, or could use them for "trolling" like Barry does? If I had a pile like many do on here, I would saw off different size "tines" and make a rattle bag, should sound as good as dowels I would think?

What's showing on this shooting bag are two powder measures, a ball starter of small caliber, a button, and the patch knife above is on the strap.

Jeff, here's the whole bag, nothing fancy and it's 42 years old.

From: Jeff Durnell
Date: 12-Dec-22

Dude. Nice. Love it! Looks great, classy, no frills, but all we need, readily accesible at an instant's notice.

If I HAD to critique something, I might hang the horn a few inches higher so it doesn't interfere with opening the bag flap. But I like it... a lot. Good job on her. Good indeed.

I want to make another this winter but I'm afraid the moose hide I bought for it is too light weight. We'll see. Fine line with leather weight when it comes to muzzbags, quivers and such.

From: reddogge
Date: 12-Dec-22

Thanks. I'll look into rehanging the horn but right now it has enough play to pull up to the muzzle height of a long rifle. Appreciate the suggestion.

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 12-Dec-22

reddogge that is a slick looking bag. Good job.
