We used to use the older plastic vanes on wood arrows years ago. Nothing to it.

I used to put vanes on wood shafts years and years ago. They were always cheaper than feathers and I shot wood arrows from my first Jennings compound bow. Aluminum shafts were $25 a dozen, woods were more like .75 each. For stumping type shooting they were just fine. Vanes were a super cheap especially if bought by the hundred.

Bear Archery did sell cedars arrows at one time with vanes (Bear Weathers) back in the late 1970s. The photo attached is from the 1978 Bear Archery catalog.

Wait a minute! The trad police have told us forever that trad is defined by what Bear Archery sold back in the day. They also tell us that vanes are not traditional. We have quite the conundrum here!

Trad is often/commonly defined by individual's fantasies, that won't allow them to see the entire picture/history of it.
Most (not all) of the so called "trad police", wouldn't know trad if it was stuck up their nose. LOL

WOW! I feel like I touched the 3rd rail of the Trad States of America! All I wanted to do was have some arrows for judo shooting with a little dew on the ground or maybe a wet day in the stand and now I'm frying like a 1st degree murderer in Texas!

I never shot Trad Vanes on wood arrows but I have shot them on carbon arrows and the performed excellently for me in my testing. I imagine they'd shoot just fine on your wood arrows.
Try it out and let us know what you think.
Don't sweat some of these guys getting bent, most of them don't have anything better to do and are just looking for something to b**ch about half the time I swear.

Perhaps you should just carry a basket of rocks.
Vanes work fine if that’s what you want. My set up for rain is sitting in my chair reading.

Nope, can’t graduate to knapped heads till you kill a deer with a rock. Then you can make a pouch for your rocks and get rid of the basket. Plus you’ll need leather for knapping. Oh yeah, you have to ware a LeClair loin cloth until you have enough buckskin for clothes. No pics please. But you don’t do those anyway.

All this talk, and ridicule is making me want to shoot wood arrows with vanes. Off the shelf of course.
But, I've been there, done that, have the tee-shirt, and the trophies to prove it works just fine, so no sense in back stepping.
