How many of you do the plucking, cutting, dyeing, mounting the Feathers? How difficult is this process?, I like doing what I can myself - and I'm rather frugal.
Thank you

I have done it all for about 20 years now. I used to hunt turkeys some, so alway plucked my own, now have friends that save them for me, or trade for some. I bought a Great Northern Feather grinding jig, and some lil choppers, and process allmy own feathers start to finish, dying some to. It’s not hard to do, but can be time consuming. Make sure you have adequate ventilation as grinding the quills creates a lot of dust that can be hazardous to breath in.

Not too difficult…but after splitting and grinding a couple hundred every year, I send the rest to Todd. He is fast and does a great job!

I’ve done it, but as others said above, now I send my feathers to Stykzz for the grinding. I still do the Turkey killing, feather plucking, chopping, and installing.

I have done it all but the the killing. With all the feathers I process, I’ve never killed a Turkey.
I second the comment on outstanding equipment, especially the dust collection. I run a dust collector, two air cleaners (box fans with 20x20 hepa filters) and I wear an n95 mask. Then weather permitting I have all the doors open.
I built my jig from directions on the Dean Torges website. I modified it a little bit to suit my needs. It’s similar to the jig that great northern sells.

That's just not right. Todd's probably got feathers on half of all the arrows belonging to Wallers! Would somebody please invite him on a turkey hunt next spring? Frisky's excluded...we want him to actually kill something besides time!

I did a few except the plucking. I prefer the deal you get with a fellow Waller. Send him the feathers he splits and grinds all for the wing side you don’t want. Dye and cut them myself.

Nothing against Stykzz, but he ain't getting half of my feathers for a few minutes 'work'. I can do a feather a minute for as long as it takes to get them all done. Let alone the cost of shipping and the waiting. When I want to make a batch of arrows, grinding feathers is just a few minutes of prep... free, rewarding, and just part of arrow makin.
What's a ground natural turkey feather cost/worth? Pine Hollow Longbows wants $30 a dozen plus shipping. Good grief. NOT!

I do I use a simple jig copied from something I saw for sale. I got like 10 bucks in it. Remember to save the other wing and best secondaries, they make great fluflus.

I send Stykzz my left & right wing feathers...I never use right so he keeps them & does a great job on the left wing feathers & sends them back to me.. I don't care if it takes him 10 seconds per feather...Sounds like a win - win situation to me......... Thanks Stykzz for a top notch deal !!!! I'll have more for you after turkey season !!! I'll concentrate on getting the feathers, cutting the feathers, building the arrows, tuning them & let Stykzz grind feathers in exchange for feathers I would never use.....Des

I just use an old bitz clamp and some 220 grit sand paper and then finish it off with a chopper.
