Found what looks like an osage self bow in a Ben Pearson box. its a one piece bow n very shiny slick finish. had a Pearson general bow instruction booklet too. no writing whatsoever on the bow. Anybody got any knowledge abouye this bow??

Without some pictures it is nothing but a really bad WAG. Longbow, recurve, length?

I stand corrected!! got it inside where I could see it better its just a wood youth bow , 60" long with wraped handle. the only writing on it is 500-60 and is very faint. I measured it at 60" any idea what the 500 stands for? the wood has no notisiple grain and is orangeish a little darker than a manila envelope. ive had it for 10 or 15 years and just rediscovered it about a week ago (: its a longbow.

Lemon wood.

500 maybe the model number. Would have to look through some old catalogs to verify that.

Old catalogs are fairly available online but this sounds like the typical simple lemonwood bow made by every company back in the day.

Here you go. This is from the 1957 catalog.

Checking a good link indicates this is likely a kids hickory bow from the early 50s.

More or less the same as the link I found. It indicated 1954 which may have been the first year.

You can almost guarantee that anything less than 64" in lemonwood was made as a kid's bow. York was the same way with theirs. Osage also would be a deep bronze on an old bow.

The evidence points to it being Hickory going by the model number and length. Definitely a youngsters bow, though it says "perfect for teenagers".

Typical bow for archery at Camp.

Old Hickory maybe. Are you sure it’s Osage?

From: Will tell

A lot of the old Pearson bows were made from Hickory.

From: Runner

The model listed is Hickory.

There was a huge variety of materials used for Pearson bows, even before glass came along. All the known bow woods of the time, bamboo, laminated wood, laminated bamboo and wood, fiber backing, sinew backing, silk backing etc.
