Curious what you all think. This little buck has been munching on my garden... came in recently with this strange bump on his side... If I was a betting man, I would say it's the fletching of a misplaced arrow from an unlucky hunter. Those of you with better eyes than me, let me know what you think. JW

Sorry - not sure how to embed this. I dropped the link down below but it didn't work I guess. JW

When he started to walk away it looked like fletching sticking up.Not sure what else it could be really.

Hard to say for sure. But he's getting around good for what looks like a deep wound if its an arrow.

Does look like the fletching end and also a slight "bulge" running down his side like maybe part of the shaft under the hide?? They are tough animals and can surprise us.

Sure looks like it to me. Ouch for sure

Wow that's crazy

Look's like fletching to me to.However it also looks like it could be a gut hit as well. That gives me serious doubt.

I'm watching this on a very large screen.

Even enhancing it, the video is just to poor a quality to offer anything definitive.

So, I'm gonna say - Maybe. Maybe not.

Would have had to have been an almost straight down shot to produce that outcome.

I've seen lots of injuries to them from all kinds of things, and many looked similar to this.

Not sure what your seeing, but I don't see anything sticking up/out when he is walking away. He is walking pretty good if there is an arrow sticking through where the wound is.

I've seen many growths on a lot of deer, and that looks like something that naturally occurred, not a shot deer. It's grown over too so all we can do is guess. Anyway, an arrow that would have penetrated that deep would likely have caused a lot of blood loss, not to mention cutting gut and most likely a bad infection.

Same grainy video like those of Big Foot and UFOs. LOL

After watching many episodes of "The Incredible Dr. Pol" my guess is it's an abscess from an injury, possibly from fighting another buck.

Well thanks for the look, fellas. By the way this is a new bump - not there in other views. So I was thinking of an errant arrow from straight above as this is next to a good deal of rural land during the season... BUT he is walking pretty well so it's hard to imagine that arrow placement back in the gut that would not be fatal (over a number of hours) or have him walking gimpy. I will see if the camera gives another view or two in the next week. FYI he is a little Blacktail. He is hard on the flowers but cool to have around. JW

Whatever it is it does not seem to bother him. He looks glossy and good.

Agree with George.

Given that it's a "new" bump, I lean toward an arrow (or perhaps a fight) causing it as well. An arrow shot from a steep above angle, could cut a swath through that area without much penetration.

I see an arrow in the gut region from steeply above and maybe just inside the hide when I watch. Something to think about, a dull broadhead can penetrate without much damage. I've also known whitetail to have amazing healing powers.

You should try to shoot it.

Def looks like a growth of some kind.

Looks like an arrow steep angle inside the hide to me as well.

Could be a tree branch or broken off antler from another buck.

Although I see a dark area on the belly left side about the the end of the sternum.

Yup I see that too... hard to make out but could be the business end of an arrow. Hope he makes it. JW

We have two deer on our place with similar looking skin lesions that could be related to insect/viral infections.
