Just found out that an old friend, a buddy from the Air Force back in the 70s was headed my way from the east coast. His wife has family about 30 miles north of me and so they are going to be here in the area by Sunday night. We both were radio men and worked on the numerous C-130s at Little Rock AFB. One of my fondest memories with him was sitting on the wing of a C-130 eating a box lunch at 2:30 in the morning. Anyways, I am preparing a selfbow for him, it is one of my Osage bows, 64" long, 41# @ 26". We talk at least once a week as he commutes back home from DC. His father had been very big into trad bows for several years and recently passed. I made this bow about two years ago and hunted with it a couple of times. Cleaned it up and am putting another coat of boiled linseed oil on it. I will surprise him when I show it to him and it has his name written on the lower limb. Can't wait, been about ten years since I have seen him last. I'm beginning to run low on bows, have given 6 trad bows away to new shooters in the last year. But it is awesome to see the ones that end up loving to shoot them. Jerry

my Vet friend just left, he was totally surprised by the bow and was beside himself. He had tears in his eyes as he read the inscription on the lower limb where it said that it was his bow made by me. We had gone thru a few old "war stories" when I handed him the bow to look at. He had glanced at the writing but then did a double take when he read his name on it. They had come in his mustang and I offered to ship it to him but he insisted on taking it with him and placed it carefully in his car with some woodies that I had ready for him as well. Don't know if I will ever see him again but I wanted him to have a part of me. He had to tell me stories of his father shooting his Kodiak and his deer hunting. I had sent him two knives that I made over the years but this was a little more special to me and it seems to him. He will be heading back to Virginia in a few days from here in Arkansas. Just love to see the huge smiles. Jerry
