Anyone have any experience with these? Good or bad. Thanks.

There's lots of information in the archives about them. And as with most foreign made bows the jury is pretty well split.

I bought a 17" Samick Discovery riser here a year or two back. Every since I picked it up I don't shoot any of my other bows. I shoot the bow very well, I can't find a flaw in the bow.

When I purchased my Discovery it came with a riser weight. With the bottom weight the bow balances perfectly.

When I got the riser I put some Blackmax limbs on it. After a while I did some trading and picked up a set of Discovery limbs. The foam limbs are the quietest ILF limbs I have ever shot.

Most oldest son and a few shooting buddies poke fun at me, saying I might as well be shooting a compound. Who cares, I love the bow :)

I now have both the R1 and R3 limbs. They both seem to be pretty good limbs. The R3s are really smooth drawing. The R1s are not as comfortable to shoot but they do a great job for the money. No clue on the riser. I bought the Farmington Atlas riser and now a Satori riser, both 19". I'm undecided which I like better. The Farmington was the big brother to the Discovery until they decided to make the Discovery in more lengths. Personally, I like the cutouts better than the solid riser.

I have one, 17 inch riser with medium limbs. First recurve I owned. Really like it but it was difficult to get information on it. Didn’t come with manual so took a lot of research to find brace height limits. When grip started to crack I couldn’t get a replacement until I found one at Merlin Archery in the UK. Despite those issues I don’t regret the purchase and would make the same decision again.

I owned one and thought it was a great riser. Grip fit my smallish hand well. Finish was good, mine was forest green. My only complaints were the limb bolt adjustment screws, and noise. The stock limb bolts are a cheap, soft aluminum. The heads of which will strip eventually. Alternative archery in the U.K. sells an upgraded stainless steel version and they are great. This was my first venture into ILF bows and it was definitely louder than my one pieces. I was able to quiet it down with velcro and rubber. My riser was the 17" model and I enjoyed/learned a lot while shooting it. Also, mine was made the year before the bottom limb pocket weight was introduced. I think that feature would have been worth while. I had R3 45# mediums on the riser and although maybe a tad slower ( no chrono ) than black max limbs of the same length and weight, I feel they are much smoother drawing. I sold the riser and kept the limbs. I bought a bear black bear (21") warfed riser and still use the limbs on it. I'm not sure if it's the added length or actual weight of the riser but, I shoot this much better than the discovery. I read recently that samick is now offering a 21" model and that may just be the ticket. I'm a short guy, 5'7", with a 26" draw and have to agree with what the seasoned archers have said over and over, longer bows are easier to shoot well. 21" riser with mediums for me. Good luck!

If you want to go with there newer 21 inch Discovery riser Archery Torque sells them for $300 delivered even to your door in many colors. Riser only of course . I ordered one in mossy brown for a friend/ customer of mine and matched it with R3's shoots well . Alternative sells R3's for like under $140 with a minor shipping wait . Then of course you just need to add your own rest and choice of string / arrows etc .

Heads up follow up numerous reports from consumers on the SD 21 inch risers cracking in the same spot . I know of one case where the consumers riser was replaced only to have the replacement crack in same spot , and now currently being sent a third riser . Probably all with in less than a two year span . Needless to say the guy has been left with a bad taste in his mouth. Hope eventually it works out for him and he can get a full return refund . I am also posting this because a guy had me order one of these risers for him because he was never home being an over d road trucker too accept delivery.

Sorry about your friend's experience...My Discovery is still my go-to recurve!

Yes Ben there 17" model is there bread and butter, apple pie riser . A winner no doubt . Unfortunenatly the 21 appears to be there problem child like jake paul .

I have one came with recurve limbs , I bought a set of DAS longbow limbs also. Both shoot great. Seems plenty fast for a #40 bow. One of the better looking ILF risers IMHO. Also I don’t see the aluminum bolts being an issue. Just don’t adjust weight or tiller while the bow is strung

MCNSC which one do you have the 17 or 21 ? .....

I have the 17" version with longbow limbs and for me I shoot it great. I bought this one used. I use the XL longbow limbs Das classics. That makes a 64" longbow. My brace height has settled on 7.75. The only issue I had was to put a rubber washer between the springy rest washer and the riser. That was for taking care of a vibration from the springy rest. It is not quiet, unless I pluck the string.

Dad, have you tried a stiffer spring?

Yes the final set up was 35# on the finger XL longbow limbs-- my DL is 27" 1816 arrow 28" BOP-125 gr. replaced 15oz with 20oz spring, 5" fletching shot leagues tonight and with warm up around 100 arrows with practice and round. Quiet as a mouse.

I really like my 17" with R3 limbs. I set it up using a Satori module for shooting off of the shelf.

For those that might not know the 17 and the 21 have two completely different physical designs in there risers . The 21 is "not" just a longer strechted 17 . And here in from apperant current reports lies the problem . There's a gent on TT , thats currently looking @ his third replacement riser (21) because the previous two have cracked in the same place . Honestly after second failure I would be requesting my money back .

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have the 17 inch riser.

With the problems with the 21 inch I would avoid them.

Not familiar with the riser but the R3 limbs I liked, one of the nicer feeling draw cycles on the Satori risers I was shooting up until recently.

The R3's are fantastic limbs , really for the $ hard to beat . I never owned any but some guys say really good things about the R1's also . Years ago Samick also had there " Bear Hunter " ILF riser model which I always thought was fantastic . Theres a good vid on the Bear Hunter riser on YouTube . One would be surprised lots of gents have never even heard about the Bear Hunter riser Samick offering . Real pretty riser also .

I think my next riser will Be a Samick Discovery 17" for hunting in black. I have heard of the "Black Hunter but don't see them for sale used very often.
