Do you ship them in regular shipping tubes?

From: fdp
Date: 07-Aug-22

Nope. I use square/rectangular boxes.

Just shipped a bow from Michigan to Florida, standard shipping with insurance cost me $73.00

Usually I ship em in whatever I have available..rectangu lar boxes or tunes. I prefer tubes because they offer a little more protection IMO

3" thin wall PVC and USPS

For a longbow I use pvc downspout cut to length and I make end caps from several layers of cardboard. Tubes can roll off of conveyer belts.

I use the smallest box available to avoid surcharges where I can, often making my own.

I've shipped bows from PA to Oregon and the most I've paid is $41.65 for a one piece that was insured for $550. That is terrible compared to the past but it's hard to keep the cost under $30 if insurance is purchased.

USPS, thumbs up. JF

Shipping cost a bow or buying a tank of gas, which hurt worst.

USPS, just wrap it like sending glass.

I just shipped a 68" longbow in a rectangular rain gutter down spout. Three-day priority was $37 and another $10 for $500 insurance, from Idaho to Texas; $47 seems high, until you comprehend how long a package that is to handle all along the system compared to smaller ones.

I use USPS too. I ship at least 15 bows a year. The most it has cost since the rates were raised and the additional $15 surcharge is $41. That was from east coast to west coast. If you are paying $73 your box is way too big..

I just paid over 60 to ship a bow from NY to Nebraska, insured. Box was as small as it could safely be, weight was less than 4 lbs.

Just had a bow that I bought.. delivered from RMSG in Colorado to Florida UPS.. $25

SPEEDY is by far the cheapest route for shipping bows, problem is they don't serve the entire country. Next on my list is USPS. UPS would be my last choice...I'd take a roadtrip and deliver the bow myself before I ever use them again. Been burned too many times..

I just shipped a bow to California and S.D. total $28. USPS priority male make the box as small as possible less than 5 inches across on all sies and 64" long or shorter dont buy insurance you wont be able to collect anyhow . Tubes are the best way to have a bow destroyed .

Tim, A lot of recurves have too big a hook for 5 inches to work . It needs to be at least 4 x 6. Why do you say we won’t be able to collect on insurance?

The reality is most people don't understand how USPS shipping works. Shipping in the USA (yes, thats ALL the states) are categorized by 8 zones based on milage. Anything being shipped more than 1800+ miles is a zone 8. A basic example is...it will cost you the same from Florida to Colorado as is Florida to Alaska because both fall into zone 8 more than 1800+ miles. The notion of only lower 48 is bologna! Hahahaha Lower the zone# the cheaper the price because of distance. I run a small used online archery shop out of my garage in Hawaii. Just mailed a kmag recurve to Maine for $42 bucks insured on USPS priority mail. Rule of thumb...If you can get your package 4# or under 4" width or under & 4" height or under regardless of length you will be in the ballpark of a $40 package for zone 8. Goodluck

Where’s the best place to find a box that will hold 58-62 inch recurves.

From: bodymanbowyer

Doc pain,Nemah did a box buildalong a couple years ago. His boxes come out very nice and sturdy. JF

If I can't find a box the right size I just make my own. Pretty simple, all ya need is some cardboard, wrapping tape, and good sharp box-cutter.
