Does anyone still make swaged aluminum arrow shafts? About 20 years ago I ordered some 2016 Easton Legacy shafts from Three Rivers that were swaged to 28 1/2" to the back of the point. They flew great out of my longbow with field points and glue on broadheads.

Nock or point end? The Legacy line is discontinued according to the folks at Easton. I talked to them a couple of weeks ago.

Mike's Archery in Ironton, Ohio still swages point ends on aluminum arrows.

Easton Tribute...different colour pattern...metal is as good...-005" straightness.

The ones I want have both ends swaged.

Nope...not available in the general market. You can have the point ends swaged though.

I don't know who swages them these days. Vern Butler swaged [point end]some 2114 Autumn Orange shafts for me years ago. I don't like the modern aluminum with glue in [string end] nock inserts. The older aluminum with swaged nock end are way better. Easier to replace busted nocks with them as well. You won't "Robin Hood" many older aluminum shafts with swaged nock end. :)

I don't think Tributes are being made anymore at least with swaged nock ends. If so where?

Swaged nock Tributes may be available as old stock. If you find them you better get as many as you can.

If you want the point ends swaged Mike's Archery in Ironton, Ohio does them. Can't help with nock ends.

What’s the point of the swaging? Can’t you just screw in your field point?

No its for glue on points, like a lot a trad broadleafs used to be made.

If your lucky enough to find your shaft right size, there are still a few PDP glue in broadhead adaptors and Flitemates still around. I have used these for decades as an alternative to having the front of the arrow swaged.

I have a couple hundred of these for 2016's:

They work great! I glue them in with 24hr golf club shafting epoxy. I burn away the aluminum before the bond breaks....so a little heat for fer-l-tite is no issue.

You can always make your inserts out of wood like the one on the left. I use Ferr L Tite to glue all inserts and heads on arrows. You may need to remove them one day.

But what is the advantage of those over the screw ins?

From: Larry Burford

The fly really good out of several of my bows, and they look cool.. ha. They seemed to fly flatter than the same size arrow with a insert and screw in point. Maybe I am just imagining it. :.)

That’s all that matters. If you like it

The swaged front lightens up the front of the shaft which can be a benefit if your are using very heavy arrows (and want them lighter) or have a marginally weak spined shaft that you are shooting out of a heavier bow.

Case in point...lets say you take a 125 grain broadhead, add a 45 grains broadhead adaptor, and screw into a 15 grain arrow insert...you got 185 total grains of hardware. Conversely, that same 125 grain head glued on to a 3/4" piece of swaged shafting will vary but let's say it adds 9 grains for a total of 134 grains.

That's a 51 grain difference and provides a great deal more tuning options if you wanted to shoot a skinnier, but less spined aluminum shaft that was lighter out of a heavier bow.

Plus, switching heads back and forth from Woodies to Easton is easier.

I just use glue-in broadhead adapters, been using them for years so no need for pre swaged shafts.

Woodies can be swaged too :)

They weigh less.
