It was too hot for me today to partake in the FS so at 9:15pm here in Seattle with the temp only 80* I decided to try a few shots in low light. Something I haven’t done before. The shots were taken from 17-25 yards and I don’t know which arrow was from what distance because I could barely see the flight of the arrow. Looks like 3 out of 4 would do the job. Not to sure about the highest arrow. The bow is the American Archery T/D and the arrows are tapered cedars. I’m going to have to try this again! Lance

Can’t tell how low your light is but years ago I was shooting in the woods on a cloudy day. I had one arrow with a flo green nock. That’s the only one I could see the hit. Went home and ordered a hundred. The lighting reminded me of first light in the morning when hunting in the woods.

I like shooting in low light. I believe it will make you concentrate on a target better. On a bright day I get a glare off of objects.

I love shooting in the dark. I use cheap Walmart solar lights to light up my targets.

This is what I use. $11 worth every penny, I don't like shooting in the heat.

I practice quite a bit before season low light. It’s pretty different. You can’t see the fine spots, can’t judge distance as well. I also shoot in dark with lights. I’ve used my truck lights often

I've always done a lot of low light shooting. I think it just makes one a better shot.

I like to shoot in very low light also. That is when deer move by me! It is really good practice for hunting. I find that dark arrow stain or black carbons don't work for me in those conditions. My arrows are light pecan stained or no stain at all on cedars. If I use carbons use a really light colored woodgrain version or the newer white carbons.
I guess I shoot as instinctive as anyone would, but apparently part of instinctive is your eye knowing where the arrow is pointed when drawn. So you have to see it. Even if you want to argue that you don't see that shaft when drawn you have to see it in flight to know where to point with each shot.
I think you can do pretty good with some near dark or dark shooting for a couple dozen shots or so. Your brain is so conditioned that you know where to hold. I am guessing that if all you did was shoot in the dark that in a short period of time accuracy would erode. Especially if you varied distance. At that point you would just be pointing your hand in the general direction of the target. Not knowing what trajectory looked like or where the shaft was pointed precisely. Imagine if someone hands you an unfamiliar bow in the dark. Look out!
