Last year on a 25 yard shot on a doe, she performed som amazing gymnastics. Between the release and the arrows arrival, she did a 180 and a leap in her new direction. The arrow caught her high on the rear quarter and penetrated almos to the fletching. No vitals or arteries were struck and she left in a hurry.
I did all the standard follow up but found no blood trail and quickly lost her tracks among many others in what is pretty much a pine needle covere forest floor. A good bit of searching showed no sign of her.
Yesterday I was at the same place putting up a trail cam. My grandson was with me and was wandering around while I set a cam. About 15 minutes later I hear "found an arrow".
Yup it was my arrow. Apparently it caught on something and pulle through while she fled.
The arrow was in surprisingly good shape for having spent 10 months on the ground through a Colorado winter above 10,000'. The grizzly head was still pretty sharp and not vert rusty. Probably because I always wipe a thin coat of Vaseline on them at the beginning of the season.
