curious who uses them. what are the pros and cons? what size heads can you use? Tapering tips? Thought about trying them.

I have a couple dozen in the past. I found I needed my sanding taper jig to make nock and point tapers. The blade type (tru center) wouldn’t make a clean cut on the bamboo fibers. You can buy wood plugs that serve to reinforce the point and nock ends but I choose to use wood dowels. I used epoxy to glue them in. Also when I cut to length I made sure I was at least 3” from a node. The node is the weakest part of the stick. As for finish I used regular min wax stain and clear.

I shoot Surewood shaft not bamboo and I can say your better of sanding nock and point taper. I would like to try some bamboo I shot with a gentleman in NALS and he shot bamboo arrow he used Micro nocks and Bear broadheads those arrow were indestructible.

One of the dozen I made for a friend I put 5/16” field tips on. Can’t recall weight. The other dozen he installed broadheads. The shafts came like 34” long so I was able to cut them so the diameter was close from shaft to shaft.

I shot with a guy in alabama that strictly used boo. He footed the point end with aluminum shaft and used said shaft's insert. He also tapered the nock end for glue on nocks. When i was shooting boo, i used screw in adapters from 3r, and tappered for glue on nocks. Handled nicely. Too much work for me,so im back to carbon.

I bought a bag of bamboo skewers and glue a 2" piece of the skewer in each end of the arrow using Titebond 3. Bamboo is hollow and using the skewer makes the ends solid. I self nock one end and have sand tapered the point end although I use stone points most of the time so that uses a different application of the point.

I lightly sand the entire shaft and use wipe on poly for a final coat before fletching.

Never really tried bamboo yet but I’ve made lots of River cane and Hill cane. Kinda similar to boo.

I use self notches and wrap shaft with sinew. I like sinew but you can use artificial or thread.

For target points I use pole barn spikes I cut to weight. I usually cut them a little heavy and shoot them bare shaft before I fletch them. They usually shoot weak that way and I cut off a little bit of the pole barn point till I get them to fly right.

I glue them in with TB2 and wrap the shat with sinew. After the sinew is all dry and shrunk down I protect it from moisture and wear with super glue or TB2.

I really like cane . Pretty though stuff.

Disadvantage is spine of shaft isn’t easy to change by sanding or filling. You need to change dynamic spine by changing point weight or shaft length
