Rocky and Friends , when is the Elm Hall camp and shoot. I’m thinking it will be August 5-6 and 7th or maybe the Sunday before that, got to try to get there before Pappy. Kurt

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 07-Jul-22

Yep that is the date Kurt, see you there, can hardly wait. It is the 1 shoot I can't miss Good Lord willing, I will be headed that way 7/31 for a week of fun with friends and maybe some shooting thrown in. Pappy

You two are were reading my mind… the day after the Fourth of July I started setting things aside for the Elm Hall trip! Looking forward to seeing you there.

We go to a lot of shoots every year and each has a flavor of its own. The PINE RIVER REC STICKBOW SHOOT in Elm Hall, MI is the best "hunters" shoot bar none. We look forward to it every year. Elm Hall kicks off a frantic month for stickbow shooters here in Michigan. We have shoots on successive weekends for an entire month. Pine River, GLLI, Tomahawk, and Lapeer. You get home just long enough to wash your underwear and then its back at camp for another round of great fun!!

From: Dale Rohrbeck
Date: 07-Jul-22

Always look forward to seeing everyone at Elm Hall. Yeah, August is a busy time around here.

I will be seeing you there on Saturday. This is my favorite shoot of the year. Good people and great food!

Lots of good shoots to attend wish gas prices weren't so high.

From: BigStriper1
Date: 08-Jul-22

Anybody else coming to Elm Hall, it’s a great laid back shoot with good eating also. If you come, stop by camp and say hello. I’ll be camping in a Pop Up camper down by Pappy in the White Bus. Kurt

I’d love to Grant but I don’t think my other half would let me get away with that. Besides Steve would have to board out his dog for another week. Kurt

I’ve never attended this event, so I have some questions. Are there vendors set up selling? Is there a trading blanket? Are there nearby motels and restaurants? How many targets? And anything else you’d like to add.

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 10-Jul-22

A few vendors, lots of tailgaters, no trade blanket that I know of but lots of trading going on, Not sure on motels but sure their are some in Alma MI. which is pretty close, just a few miles. Usually about 50 targets on 2 ranges and 15 or so on the broad head range. No competition so shoot all you want, also a brat cook Friday night and big supper Saturday night for all that register, 1 price for all, not sure on the price but i think last year it was 35/40 $ for all weekend.no fee to camp, Hope you can make it, it is a fun weekend.Maybe someone from the club will come on with more info, I am just a guy that has went for 20+ years so kind of know the ropes (: Pappy

Great Shoot put on by great people! See you there!!

From: Jon Stewart

As Pappy mentioned no official trade blanket but I set stuff to sell out every year.

Probably the best shoot in the state for traditional only archers.

Yep, Michigan is just loaded with shoots. Barryton, MTB Jamboree, Jackson, Elm Hall, GLLI, Tomahawk, Lapeer...it's nonstop for the summer. I only get a couple of weekends off a year so it's impossible to shoot them all. :(

Damon, My friend Joe will have the second camper north of the gate. Hope to meet up with you.

From: Grumpy Jim
Date: 27-Jul-22

Are there very many vendors? I just picked up a used longbow and could use some miscellaneous items to outfit it as well as some new broadheads.

Jim Compliment

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 27-Jul-22

JP enterprises is usually there and a few more, usually lot of tailgaters always there. Not usually a lot of vendors but enough to fill your needs. Pappy

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 27-Jul-22

Damon, we set up a pop up shelter for several years to build under and generate some self bow attention. It didn't catch on, so we quit setting it up. It's a hardcore glass crowd and the interest in wood bows is near zero. For several years we would harvest elm from the club land and then build a bow for the next year to auction off. That didn't work out either. We couldn't raise $100 per bow if we tried and there were some damn fine bows for auction from some well known names. Oh well, we tried! :)

From: Wudstix Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 27-Jul-22

Closest I'll probably get is the hat I received, thrown in as part of a broadhead swap. TX is a bit of a hoof from MI and the Eastern shoots.

From: wooddamon1 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 27-Jul-22

Well dang, PD. Sounds like I missed the good old days. Looking like a possible day trip for Saturday, maybe I'll get lucky and someone will be hawking staves at least. It is a great little shoot regardless.

Jed, I'll look you up if I make it over that way!

From: BigStriper1
Date: 27-Jul-22

….a little more trivia from this weekend in Elm Hall: there is nothing grumpy about Grumpy Jim; Dick, local Root bow collector and historian, found a $100 bill in the parking lot…it was returned to its owner with no fanfare; there are days of the week when Pappy doesn’t wear bibs; lucky for Pappy his wife didn’t know the difference between a Corvair and a Corvette…or if she did, he’s still a very lucky guy! Salt of the earth and we are surrounded by these people! Make it a great day!

Just got back from Elm Hall and what a great shoot! Had a great time shooting and visiting with friends. Thanks to Rocky and crew for all their hard work they put in before and after this event. Getting the opportunity to attend a traditional shoot like Elm Hall is special and reminds me what dedication it takes from club members to host a shoot like this!! As Pappy told me "It's a labor of Love" Thanks again!!

I enjoyed a wonderful week at Elm Hall, I got to Camp and shoot with many good friends. I also got to meet Damon Wood ( Wooddamon) he’s a very nice guy. Thanks to Rocky and all the fine guys from the Elm Hall club for the food and friendship they provided. Herbie it was great seeing you and I did hear something about a Coconut and grove of trees but I guess I was to busy shooting and having a good time that I missed it.
