It strikes me as interesting how none of these scams are new, just reinvented old ideas that are now adapted to the internet. I was investigating some of the same sort of stuff when I started out in law enforcement back in 1976.

Back then they usually originated via phone calls, or mailings, but the bottom line is always the same, if it seems too good a deal, it likely is!

Is get those at my art gallery sometimes,, when I say I want to speak to you in person,, they are overseas at the time,,but still want to send me a check, usually they are buying an anniversay present and go into great detail about it,,, I tell them my book keeper wont allow a check and then they stop,, but your right,, Ive been getting the same one for years,,

Why does anyone want to spend,2, 3, 4, 5 hundred dollars on something they never had in their hands. Go to a shoot and spend your money and you have no worries about being scammed. This is just me and I know most won't agree but I don't spend money like that. Maybe my 73 year old age taught better.

If your going to scam and break the law at least do it for 4-5 million.

I have actually contacted the FBI in the past. For my Art (Painting) sales. I had checks in hand and letters with the professional company letter heads etc... as well. They said there was nothing that they could really do. Sooooo Ho Hum!

@Elkpacker, these are small timers for sure, but they are on many sites, and if you add up several successful 500+ scams a week they are making a living. Disgusting, but that's why they persist.

I have no idea who puts their private phone number on public internet classifieds and wonders why he gets all kinds of unwanted calls... That's what e-mail is for.... No longer needed, terminate address.

There are also many scams on expensive puppies and kittens for sale via the internet.

There are scams on everything that can be sold and there has been for years.

Livestock, car parts, cars, fishing tackle, boats. land, and on and on. And the more valuable that the item is the fewer number of times the scammer has to "sell" it.

AS was mentioned it isn't anything new it's just that now there is a more efficient way to do it.
