On occasion, when lacking correct string size for recurves......to shorten string to achieve proper brace height I'll put an intentional knot or two in string. Usually it's a temporary fix, but curious about long lasting performance and alteration of string.

My experience has been that they eventually cut themselves and cause the string to break. Usually in pretty dramatic fashion.
Not sure how it really affects performance.

a knot is always a weak point in a rope

I've done it in an emergency situation for a hunt, but I wouldn't want to use it an entire season. Strings are cheap to make yourself so no need in challenging the waters.

I believe Gene Wensel said he hunted with one on his Shaffer for a while, maybe he'll chime in.

If I remember correctly 20-40 percent of rope rating is lost with a rigging knot. A overhand knot is worse.
