Long ago and far away, in Maine, where I lived at the time posting under the name asharrow, I posted this:
"asharrow Date: 05-Nov-04
In one of the articles Coop has made available from Popular Mechanics of the 1950s, "boam" is mentioned as a good bow wood.
Anybody know what this wood is?? Another name??"
This led to a lot of sound but no fury and no result.
Today, I came across this reference to "boawood," which is a name for persimmon, which was one of the most likely suggestions to the identity of "boam." https://www.google.com/books/edition/Elsevier_s_Dictionary_of_Trees/yjc5ZYWtkNAC?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=boam (if there are any spaces in this url, remove them)
(As you may observe, I had to change my handle to avoid snipers. ;-)
If you want to see the original thread, just put "boam" in the search box at the top.
