Do you bow builders have any pros or cons with using say Myrtle Burl or Walnut Burl for a limb veneer under glass. Was curious about compression and tension durability. I keep telling myself it's hard to beat Red Elm under glass for a consistent limb. Some pics of limbs I've sen with the Burl are beautiful. Thoughts?

Are you talking about just usung it as a decorative veneer over your regular core lamination or using the girls for the core?

I find nice veneers at our local Woodcraft store believe it or not.

They run between .022 and .024 thick.

French walnut burl on a Caribow Taiga. Works fine, looks great!

I was always under the impression that the limb veneer was cosmetic and didn’t do anything in terms of performance or durability. It’s the maple, birch, bamboo inner limb that was important

Besides looking beautiful, the only thing veneers do in limbs is add to stack thickness.

Burl or spalted veneers ..or most any other type of veneer is not of any concern as far as durability or cast.

Thanks for the replies Yes just for decoration, just was wondering how durable it would be in the long run. I see lot of bowyers offer this as an option, just didn't know if the bowyer had a material they thought was better.
