Check in with Ryan Hall Ya'll on youtube, he has the most accurate forecasts I've found and he's on there everyday tracking storms. The jury was/is still out on exactly where, when, who and how much, but it's getting closer.
Just part of life in the Northeast. We don't have gators, giant snakes that can eat small children, and chicken sized mosquitoes, so we need some entertainment. We do catch a town on fire every couple centuries though....Centralia, if you were going to ask. :) Buckle up, buttercup.
I've been waiting for good snowshoe conditions. I've refilled my 1lb propane tanks and will be completing my storm food/supplies shopping today. Truck is gassed up I have a stack of books to read. Tomorrow I'll top off the bird feeder. Bring it on and let's get this done with as the days get longer and the sun stronger.
77 and 78 were bad. We also had what I thought was a worse storm in 67. I was in 9th grade and we were sent home at noon. Didn’t go back to school for 10 days.
No milk and bread to be found on grocery shelves in the south this weekend. Everyone with bad tires and rear wheel drive will be eager to see if the roads are really “that bad!”
i'm currently "retired", so i'm good with snow. my wife gets off work if it hits. she & her fellow teachers are worse than the danged kids! "is it going to snow?" looking out the window & shopping through various forecasts hoping to see a good one, lol...
Went to fire up the snow blower to make sure I was ready. I know. Last minute. Usually not my style.
Wouldn't start. Dumped out old gas, put in new, cleaned the plug, starting fluid. Nothing. Uh-oh. Started to panic. Kept digging deeper. Ended up the gas bowl had gritty debris in it and the float was stuck, not letting gas in. Cleaned the bowl and float, put it all back together, fired right up, running like a champ. Whew. Now it can snow all it wants.
Yep, what I see here in NC they are talking about 9" then ice, and then some more snow on top of that. You guys in WV and PA will likely really get a dose. We'll see how it shakes out.
My snow cleaner-upper never fails to start Jeff. It has a blue blade and a hickory handle. No one has mentioned March 13, 1993 when we had 45" of snow fall in Somerset, Pa. I was at the Somerset Walmart trying to convince the district manager in York that we should close the store. By the next morning there was that 45" in the parking lot, and down here in Manns Choice we only got 38". A dusting. :)

George you mentioned 1993 as a big snow there. April 1973 was a big one here, I lived with my parents at the time, small town 6 miles from the county seat, and on US 34 between the 2 towns on top of a hill there was so much snow the DOT plow trucks had a tunnel through it. Me and a bunch of others walked & hitched rides to the big town, to see what it looked like. They had US 34 closed down to 1-lane going through that snow tunnel for several hours while they worked it. It was a big deal at the time to a 21 year old. a day off at work, haha. We probably got 8-9 inches last night, wet heavy stuff. I'm coffee-ing up before assaulting it.
9 below here...calm before the storm. Real winter! Lakes freeze hard, then the snow comes. Looking forward to he Bills Patriots game in Buffalo tonight. Ice Bowl revisited....Go Pats!
We are very behind on snow here west of Syracuse ny. By now we should have over 50 close to 60” we might have gotten 5”. They were saying 12” now backtracking to 3-7” no big deal.
Blizzard March 93, lived it. Was stranded at my girlfriendad's house, now my wife. Long story, but that was a doozy. Crazy details, nothing has compared since. Wish I still had that '77 Chevy truck. What a tank.
Babysaph, Hopefully you'll still have to "climb" to get in your treestand and not just step in it. And remember, it's not considered "fair chase" if the deer is still stuck in those tracks!

This storm can't be any rougher than the one we had two weeks ago. It caught everyone with their pants down. I could hardly believe it. I went out to the wood shed when there was two inches on the ground. When the snow ended hardly four hours later, we had gotten almost 15 inches! It was so wet and heavy that many pine trees came down. I had a 65 footer fall across my driveway. The power lines were all down and we lived without power for eight days. This is central VA. We cooked on our wood heater with a fry pan and dutch oven. I toted water from the creek for flushing toilets. Bottle water kept us going. Not a pleasant time, but at least we kept warm and fed.
I've never seen it snow that fast and hard in my life and I turn 68 in March. You guys probably saw it on the news as I95 was shut down and people stranded for over 24 hours. My yard looks like a war zone with all the downed trees and limbs. I ain't cleaning it up until Spring when the ground settles up. So, let it come on again. I got two new buckets and a battery AM/FM radio! :)
3 hrs of shoveling today and still not done! Everything drifted in from high winds. Driveway plugged shut with 4' high wall of frozen snow boulders thanks to sadistic plow driver...whom I waved at with ONE finger! Getting too old for this crap..have already had two heart attacks previously.
Be careful with the snow shoveling guys. I know of one guy in our neighborhood who died of a heart attack while shoveling snow. Take your time and rest often. I know. I had a heart attack back in 06.
We got 6.1". A few days ago, my back went out. I still got basic trails open for the mailman and people walking by. Suddenly, the old neighbor showed up with a big snowblower and did my entire front and driveway in 10 minutes! I shovel a path down to their old house, where his sister now lives, and create a spot where they can get out of the car and not step in snow. When a big storm hits, they help me. Saved my back for the next storm!
Here's a thought go out and shovel/snowblow/plow when it gets maybe 5" of snow. If it keeps on snowing then repeat when you get 4"-5" and so on.
It's what I have always done and makes it so much easier. Born and brought up in Maine and taking care of snow for almost 73 years you do learn, not that I like it but you do what you have to. Good luck everyone and stay safe.

Yep Whittler.....shoveled off deck and path to my wifes truck 4 times before she went to work at 4:00 AM. Tackled everything else later when the Tylenol and daylight kicked in!
Most ive lived through was 62" snowfall in 1995. Roofs were collapsing, people stranded, a real mess. I like snow and snow sports. Much better than rain.
The worst for me was the blizzard of '78 back in MA. The governor shut the state down for a week, so myself and another friend in our shop walked to work the entire week. It was approx. 3-4 miles each way for me and maybe a mile for him. Great exercise.
I used to shovel it out by hand... Finally quit doing that about 4 yrs ago.
It sounds crazy but in all honesty if I really got into to it, and worked up a good sweat...scoop throw..scoop throw..scoop throw..scoop throw..scoop throw...I could get it shoveled out in a couple hrs.
What finally broke me was the wind...out towards the road, once out of the woods, it drifts....it's like a never ending battle....I use equipment now...getting soft I guess.
Not sure how much we are supposed to get? I guess what we get huh...
Dan…the snows in 1995 were jndeed crazy. Devastated the deer herd..took years to recover.
You would find dead deer that died from calorie loss that were untouched by predators for a couple of weeks, there were so many down. They ate every bit of browse in the yarding areas, even the crap species, and that overbrowsing of the forage slowed the recovery for many years as the wintering areas could not hold as many deer.
Took the city snow dumps until early summer to fully melt.
Here in Nebraska we had a blizzard Christmas eve 2009, blizzard New Years eve 2009 and a blizzard first week of New year 2010. Drifts were roof eves deep. There houses in the country completely buried. Snow was not gone until end of April. Absolutely destroyed the Deer population. I am not sure it is totally back yet.
Codjigger, I'm no connoisseur, by any stretch. My exposure to poetry is minimal but, Service just happens to be one of those few. A lasting gift from my poetic grandmother. Thank you, for stirring those embers.
2.5" here in Connecticut but the heavy rain is washing down any cleared areas. If I can get to my front walk in time the ran should finish it nicely for me.

Hey guys, my "T" time is for 1:30 this afternoon, be about 65* and sunny. I'll just have to be content w/ golfing and fooling around the house til doe season in a couple of weeks! Feeling really sorry for you snow bound people, living w/ the consequences of severe winter, but you know, chin up, it's only 3 months til spring!
Just finished plowing. We only got about 10” Right now it’s -10 with a stiff breeze. My tractor doesn’t have a cab so I was pretty cold sitting on it for 8 hours. Still, it is better than the -34 we had three days ago. We heat with wood but our kitchen was still at 45 degrees three mornings ago as my wife and I overslept. Right now, our two wood stoves are honking and it is nice.
