I believe it was a sight mount. I have a couple old sights with that type of mount still attached.

To us old guys, that ain't a mystery. As Steve said, it's a sight mount so you don't have to drill your bow. From way back when.

Man! To bad more archers back in the day didn’t hear about them. We would have a lot more vintage bows with less drill holes in them today;)

It was a different mindset back then Don. Today's archers are more into aesthetics than function so it's a big deal now. Back then, most of us viewed our bows as tools, not art, and many, if not most bowhunters painted, and put quivers and sights on them. That was before they were set up with bushings, etc. Nowadays, ones with holes in them are about all one can afford. :)

Don. I am sure if they thought their bows would be worth more without holes they would have tape the sights on their bows. But back in the day we were archers and used our equipment the best we could.

I remember back in the late 1960s and early 1970s quite a few guys taped sights to their recurves instead of drilling holes in their bows. Here is a picture of my 1956 Bear Polar I bought 20+ years ago at a flea market if you look at the riser you can still see where the tape was that held a sight on. I took the sight off after I bought the bow.
