From "The Bowhunter", January 1952. Actually the very cool Robert Powers illustration first appeared on the cover of the March 1949 issue of "The Feathered Shaft". "The Feathered Shaft" was published from May 1947 until April 1950, it became "The Bowhunter" in May 1950, and was thuly known until June 1956. In July 1956 it became "The National Bowhunter" until October 1963 when it merged with "The Archers Magazine" aka TAM.
Anyway, I think it's a nice poem to go with the illustration........

Great poem and illustration that I can relate to, but today bowhunter would be a complete different picture with a different poem, doesn't take much thought of what it is now.

That is how it must've felt back then and still does with me.

Hey, thank you! I didn't even know there was a "Feathered Shaft." Nice poem, great artwork. Triggers snowy memories of younger years.

Has anyone written poetry about hunting with a cross-bow, compound bow, or gun?
Maybe.
But, for me, the challenge, history, and "romance" of hunting with the longbow or recurve is what's worthy of poetry.
