cool beans Rooty...bamboo backed? hickory?

From: Rooty
Date: 24-Dec-21

Pre 1940 fiber backed bamboo cc lams. 1st of many for myself. Made with simple tools and techniques. Hill family style. Draw weight not important on this one.

So Footy did you actually back it with fiber or are you using Bamboo backing and making the front view profile like '40's era flatbow?

Interesting. Were you able to pre- stress the backing before applying it?

Interested in seeing that one finished.

From: Wayne Hess

Interesting to see how it turns out

Got a few hinges Cameron. Remove a good amount of wood from the fades out 10”, both sides. Then hit the last 10” on both. Otherwise it won’t last long.

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 28-Dec-21

I should have first asked if you wanted my two cents.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 28-Dec-21

Could the hinges be built-in the form? They match.

From: Arvin
Date: 28-Dec-21

Just do what he said. He’s spot on. ??

No form just innertube a little bit at a time. Has set with expected string follow. My next move is to shorten to my prefered length of 66.5. Inserted riser block is 13.75" working portion of limb starts equal amounts from there. Much has been learned in my first month off work. Mistakes are the best teachers. Thickness tapering fades start out 5/8" to 3/8" at tip. Width starts 1" to 3/8". A little is left each way.

One shot? C'mon man. Get busy shooting that thing! Shoot 300 or 400 shots then report back.

From: Rooty

Will do weather permitting. Mean time one coat of thinned varnish along with super glue in string grooves as I use strings that most cringe at in selfbows.

From: hawkeye in PA

Good looking bow Rooty, LOL on that "cringe".

The limbs still need a little work, google "tillering gizmo", they tall you where to remove wood in the stiff spots on the limbs.

"tell you" I wish we could edit posts after the fact.

Here is a tillering gizmo "how to".

http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,61422.0.html

This tool marks the stiff spots on your limbs and leaves the weak spots unmarked.
