I have a couple dozen Centershots I was thinking to fletch up… but half of them came in a trade, so I have no inserts.

Ordinarily that doesn’t bother me because I foot with 2117 and a 2217 insert…. But I don’t think it’s going to work well to foot these because of the slimmer diameter of the shafts.

Seems like I have the same issue with some Black Eagle Outlaws… there’s just a little more slop in the fit of the 2117 than the CA gel seems to be able to fill…

Does anybody know if the Outlaws and the Centershots have the same internals?

Corax, slop in the fit between shaft and footing might be easily solved by an expanding glue such as Original Gorilla Glue. Then you would be free to continue using the insert system you've developed.

You might also try wrapping the shaft with a very fine thread before applying the footing: the CA glue will lock everything in.

I had thought about the gorilla glue, but I am a little bit concerned about one thing, which is that when the aluminum footing breaks, I can just carefully file through the side of it and pop it right off, then replace it. I’m wondering if the gorilla glue might get in the way of that…?

Thread makes sense as well… I think I may have gotten a little bit spoiled by the convenience of the system that I’m using!

Corax, I get wanting to stick with a methodology you've found to work for your application...

I have found my GG adhered broken footings remove as easily, if not more so, than my CA adhered broken footings. I used CA as my footing adhesive until switching to GG.

Both bonds can be reversed with heat, GG a little more easily.

Another thought: spread thin layer(s) of CA onto the shaft footing area until the fit is sufficiently tight for final footing adhesion.

Outlaws are .244 I.D., centershots are .231 I.D.

What weight inserts? and shaft size are you shooting? I have some for center shots you could have if they work. Let me know.

Thanks, Hawk! The Orphans are 500s…. I’m 100% prepared to be Not Fussy about insert weight because that’s why they make field points in 25-grain increments, right?

And thank you, BW. Sounds like those are nominally identical to pretty much everything else, then… except the Centershots…

And Crow - if it’s easier to reverse the gorilla glue? I’m in! I have been just using a flat file to take off enough aluminum to get through the wall and then I pop them loose…. but if I could accomplish the same thing more quickly and with less effort by use of my alcohol burner, I would be up for that for sure. Some aspects of arrow maintenance & repair are enjoyable and some are just fussy work that has to be done to keep me shooting…. and replacing footings definitely falls under the latter.
