I found this out on the course the other day, and I’ve never seen one before… Anybody know what this is? The brass threads onto the screw-in adapter… and it’s kind of crimped up front.

I’m just not sure exactly what the intended benefit might be…

Homemade small game point maybe?

Definitely not home-made, unless the creator has one pretty nifty machine shop….

That brass is STOUT, too - quite a bit thicker than a .45/70 case

Whistling arrowhead...or rather whats left of one! Can't get pics to work.

I’ve got whistling arrow heads but they don’t look like that.

There's several types...one is longer. That one has the front part broke off.

Good! That was one of the possibilities that had crossed my mind, so maybe I am still more clever than my 16 year old seems to think!

Now I’m just really curious as to why I would find one busted up out on the 3-D course…

Although now that I think about it it’s just possible that I did find it on one of the longer shots. I still think it would be kind of stupid to shoot it into foam, though…

That looks like one of my whistle tips. I like to send one of those on long shots and watch the confused looks when people hear it. What range did you find it on? I have lost a couple over the years. The brass tips break easily.

That would be one hell of a shot to get here from Indiana! I drove back from Indianapolis a couple of months ago and it took me about 14 hours, I think…

But it would certainly explain why I found this point backed up deep into a carbon shaft… One heck of a mushroom!

And now I’m trying to recall a video I saw about Stone Age whistle points and what those were used for… I think the idea was that it made a sound similar to a falcon in a stoop and that would freeze small game or keep ducks from flushing or something like that… Same guy who did the videos on the heads that are designed to skip across the water for flock-shooting ducks and geese and what not.

awesome stuff here. I had no idea of these existing. THANKS for the hints on the stone age versions too, and their possible intended uses.

Whistling points had a number of uses. For instance the Chinese military, and probably others used whistling ppints to signal different units and direct military maneuvers.

I've never seen evidence of Stone age whistling points.

There’s a guy from one of the Scandinavian countries who did some videos on the skipping arrows and whistlers…

They’re pretty cool. ;)
