For you guys with long draws (30”) like me, have you got a favorite 58” recurve that shoots well for you? I like a big sight window. I’ve tried Howatt Hi -Speeds and Diablo’s. They were OK. Thinking something 50 lbs or a little less. Thanks for your input. John

You're not going to get a big sight window on a 58-inch bow. It's just the nature of the beast. Well, I suppose a Bear A mag riser with no. 2 limbs might come close. Regardless, most 58-inch recurves are going to start stacking pretty substantially at 30 inches.

fdp, I actually liked the Howatts, the Diablo’s are just hard to find and the Hi-Speeds stack some to me. I have a 60” ‘67 Super Diablo that I really like, it’s hard to believe that 2” can make that big of a difference. Just as a side note, I normally shoot 62” bows. Short bows have been a bit of a challenge. John

Never tried them all, but some of the 58" popular bows that I tried in the past at my 31.25 DL stacked horribly. Finally had a 58" custom made, even-tillered, that scales 45# exactly at a 31.25" draw. 3/16th cut past center and large sight window. It's dream to shoot.

You can get a Black Widow PMA in 58". Their PMA has a 18" riser and a full 5" sight window.

I shoot medium Uukha limbs on a W&W Black Wolf for a 60" bow with a 30"+ draw. The limbs bend like there is no boundry to them with no noticeable stack, very smooth to draw. Short limbs would make your 58" with probably similar characteristics.

Some 50s style recurves do not have a cut out sight window.Pretty much straight up from where the arrow shelf meets the sight window. Not sure if that would interest you.
Anyway maybe something with a forward grip, deflexed riser combined with a shorter riser for your 30 inch draw.Your gonna want some length in your limb to accomidate your long drawThe large sight window might be harder to accomidate on many bows with those specs you want in a bow that fits you at 58inches length and your draw.

My black widow PCH is 58" and its becoming my most used bow simply because of all the time I spend in a blind. I draw 30" and run 30.5 inch arrows. My favorite bow is the 62 inch black widow PMA. AS you can see we have similar specs so take the info how you want. I have no desire to go any shorter than 58". Also don't care for bows longer than 62" Not sure why you like a long sight window but as stated above I don't think you will find one on a 58 inch bow. Not sure i would go 58" on a PMA with your 30 inch draw length. Black Widow has a test drive program maybe give it a go. Or go somewhere where you can shoot a bunch of different stuff. Good luck...

My draw is 30" and I know what you're talking about. That said, I've owned quite a few different 58" bows--Hi-Speed, Red Wing Hunters, both Slimline and regular, and a 1965 BW. Currently have a Bill Stewart multi-cam and a Chek-Mate Hunter II in that length. They are both pleasant for me to shoot, and of the two, the Chek-Mate has the taller sight window. I would add the Shakespeare Kaibab and Necedah to the list of well-behaved 58" bows with adequate sight windows. And I think Bear made a decent 58" bow back in the Sixties, called a Grizzly or something like that, that sold a few... :-)

I draw 30” , I always thought I’d have to shoot longer bows. 64” Bear TD’s do shoot great but recently started playing around with a 56” & 60” Bear TD’s I have no plans on going back to the 64” TD. Can’t wait to get a set of the new #2 limbs and try a 58” TD.
I have also shot a 58” slick stick and that’s a sweet bow too.

I shoot a 54” styk with no problems whatsoever, I have a 60” styk as well and don’t notice any difference in accuracy or comfort between the two at any distances. I’m a long draw as well, compare it to my 62” plus bows at normal hunting and 3d ranges and see no benefit to a longer bow. Will be ordering a shorty shrew classic hunter hopefully after first of the year.

I have 3 Black Widows in 60" and I draw 31". They do NOT stack at all and are very smooth to draw. Draw weights of 55#, 85# and 95#. I do have also a Bear Magnum 48" 40# @ 28". It stacks horribly , so the only way I can use it was to make a longer string and bring down the brace height. Not a very good bow for me , but usable if that's all I've got.

I'm a broken record... Saluki has a couple of models that are short and you can pull long. My 40# Turk is responsible for more of my animals killed than any other bow I own. I pull 30"... They are demanding on your form... sloppy shooters need not apply. : )

All bows are innately accurate. It is the shooter that changes that. While some bows may be easier for some to shoot, others have no difficulty with "unforgiving" bows.
I find it funny to see people staunchly criticize one bow or style or .. well anything as a bad avenue for everyone just because they have difficulty managing it. Some guys can shoot anything.. others barely anything and millions of people fall somewhere in between.
I may not like a certain style of bow, but i take issue with someone adamantly claiming I couldn't shoot it.
I have a 32" draw and have no interest in a bow longer than 64"s. Most of my personal bows nowadays are 60" or shorter.
Personally, I don't require forgiveness in a bow.. at least not yet. BigJim

I shoot a Bear Super Kmag. 48"inch bow. 3 under and draw 30" inches. There's no finger pinch, no staking. I have no trouble shooting it at all. But I never notice the sight window. I look at where I want my arrow to go, and most of the time it goes there. I only look at the target. I see only the target. I don't see the string, arrow or anything. It has worked for me for the last 50 years. Good luck finding what your looking for. Take care, stay safe, God Bless.

Car54, I shoot a 60" monarch. It handles my draw very well!
I have built a couple 64" monarch for myself, but was easily talked out of them by customers. They too were very smooth, but I like the compactness of the 60" and am convinced that I don't shoot one better than the other.

What I have noticed with those short bows is they have a long brace height, so you essentially don't have to draw as far. Plus, less power stroke. If those short bows had your typical 8" brace height, there is finger pinch. I have shot those 56" bear griz's and I could shoot them, but they were not forgiving or smooth. Even my 60" super K, I can shoot it well, but not smooth. Now my 64" wallace? that is smooth as silk to draw and shoot. My prefurred is a 62" bow.

I'm 5'9", have 28" draw, and shoot 58" Grizzly exclusively since 1994. I've pulled close to 30" with point on the shelf for flight shooting, or 'just because' and can't remember it being an issue. If I shot really long arrows I'd probably pull back a couple more inches just for kicks.
That said if I had a 30" draw I'd ditch Grizzly and shoot a 60" bow, or maybe even 62". But never having done it, it beats me. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Except my spot, too often. haha

Good info, I draw 29.5 and I love short bows, of the ones I’ve had they’ve been hit or miss on wether they work well with a long draw. I sold a 58” Shakespeare necedah that really drew nice to at least 30.5, don’t know if they were all that way. Most of my current bows are 60” bows, I’m used to the string angle and longer bows just don’t feel right. I’d love to get a shorter bow that worked well with a longer draw.

Long draw, on a short bow success is all about the string angle at full draw. Different bows have different tolerances to stacking point in the draw cycle.
Drawing a 58" bow to 31.25" is asking a lot from most bows that are being built today. But there are some that are designed just for that.
Here is a photo of some hybrid long bow limbs that show how this can be done. look at the location of the working limb and string angle closely. Then look at the limb travel distance. These limbs can exceed 32" draw with no stacking and still maintain a great string angle. Kirk
