A slow pre-holiday week at work has me thinking about fun stuff. We had a thread earlier about what we planned to hunt with this season, now lets see what we have actually used the most so far. For me it has been this Martin Hunter that our friend 2 bears reduced from 60 to 54#. It’s been wearing a small Big Jim’s quiver with three or four 2117 Legacy’s and 150gr Magnus Stingers. All that being said I have not killed anything yet, but have enjoyed tearing up some foam out to 30 yards or so. What say you?

It's been an unusual season for me. I wasn't able to hunt most of it as I was dealing with a nerve issue in my bow arm that has just started to calm down in the last week or so plus work got really busy.

I've enjoyed my time in the woods with my Bear Grizzly #50 I picked up over the summer and refinished. It's wearing a vintage Bear spring arm quiver that Knifeguy was nice enough to gift me. Shooting cedar arrows gifted to me by good friend Frank (Nemophilist) tipped with 190 grain Tuffhead Meatheads.

Haven't had an encounter with a legal buck yet the limited times I've been out but I have sure enjoyed myself and appreciated it a little more after dealing with the nerve issue. I still have time here in PA including our second season after Christmas. God and life are good.

My primary bow, other than if I'm in a blind, has been a 49 pound 1 piece A&H longbow. From a blind I've used a Toelke Kestrel.

My main bow was going to be my Bear Takedown A riser with #3 42 lb limbs. However I've been shooting my 59 repro better so its what I've been hunting with the most. Nothing to shoot at so far though.

This year I bow hunted with my Frankenbow. Bear Black Bear compound riser with Samick Sage recurve limbs, 62#@28". It didn't let me down. I shot a nice 10 point buck with it.

I started the first day with a new 40# BW KB. Did not feel confident with it after just tuning it just good enough. Went back to my 45# SA, had one shot and brought home one doe. Makes me wonder why we practice all year for a one shot opportunity (?)

I have been enjoying this new to me Toelke Troll 45# 52" recurve courtesy of RalphW. Loving this bow so far! It has a cocobolo riser with mango under clear glass. Wasn't sure I would like the woods but they really look fantastic to me. Bow is a big improvement IMO over a similar Bear Kodiak Magnum.

You guys have some nice photos. I never realized how hard it is to photograph a bow until I joined this site, ha ha. Trying to get it all in one picture is a challenge.

This season, mostly a 1970 Bear Grizzly 56" 45#, always a Zwickey Delta 175gr (with full length adapter) and 500 spine carbons. I toted a Montana and Patriot longbow a few times, but kept going back to that shorty Grizzly.

Home made Maple riser and #50 Samick Sage Limbs . It gives me #43 because of the short riser and limb angle and my 27 inch draw. Took a nice doe with it this season.

1st up to bat was a StCharles Thunderbird. I shot a doe Then used several self bows and killed a second doe with an Osage bow. Now, lately I’ve been after a mature deer with a Bushmen Xyphose. I afraid he may have been shot during firearm season.

I’ve spent most of my season so far with the Kim Sha Traditional. No shots yet and we are well into gun season now in TN and NC where I hunt. My plan is to get one with the rifle and then hunt the remainder of the season with a bow.

Great Plains recurve, 55#. Same bow I killed my bull elk with this years.

From: RonG
Date: 27-Nov-21

longbow 1968, I had a few D/H Martin bows, they were equal to any bow out there. The one I liked the best was the Mamba 58" 65lbs terror like the one that lit the torch at the Olympics. That rascal would sling an arrow extremely fast and was hard hitting.

This year due to my wife's Dementia I will not be hunting.

Good luck to you all.

From: longbow1968
Date: 27-Nov-21

RonG, I have always liked Mambas as well, but never owned one. I have enjoyed my old Hunter and my other Martin; a ML-10 longbow, which most folks don’t like, but it has been good to me. But they don’t mean anything compared to a healthy wife. You guys are in my prayers.
