From: treetopper

I think I have to measure him first, right?

From: fdp
Date: 22-Nov-21

Personally I would have already put a couple of does in the freezer, and of I was specifically hunting a big buck I'd let him go. At least for now.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 22-Nov-21

I think he needs another year, BUT around here that means he won't live much longer. Likely not to the end of the season.

Rick

From: A Tag

Pass, I still have 5 weeks of season and only get 1 tag.

From: MUZZLEBOW
Date: 22-Nov-21

Hoping for a chance this week at one I'm seeing sign of that hopefully will be just like that...so YEP!!!

From: 1/2miledrag
Date: 22-Nov-21

To each his own, but I sure as hell would. I don’t have the luxury of “choosing” which buck haha. I’ve gone long stretches without seeing a deer in my swamp.

From: FITTER
Date: 22-Nov-21

Yeah he’d be a main course for awhile……

From: dawgtrainer

Without a second thought!

From: grizz

Grave yard dead.

From: redquebec
Date: 22-Nov-21

Ground hunting with a longbow and a leafy suit...that buck at 15 yards...oh yeah! Great meat, decent antlers, and he's not a 250 lbs hog that needs to be dragged for a mile. Perfect!!

With only one buck tag though it's guaranteed if I shoot him I'm going to see a better one in range before the end of the season.

From: Popester1
Date: 22-Nov-21

Yup

From: LBshooter

Yes I would.

From: Mike E
Date: 22-Nov-21

Honestly if he looked healthy and the shot was there it wouldn't matter if he had two little 4" spikes stickin' out of his head.

From: Corax_latrans
Date: 22-Nov-21

Given a good opportunity, I am pretty sure that I would.

“Give him another year…”.

That one looks kind of like an old dude to me. But I am not fussy, and even if I were… That would be the biggest buck I’ve ever had a shot at, so…

Classic eight point… Works for me!

From: GUTPILEPA

With out a doubt

From: Dave Lay Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I’d shoot him In a heart beat , the typical answer of “ needs another year “ another year to do what ??? It’s the same deer if you kill him now or a year from now

From: Aeronut
Date: 23-Nov-21

If the good Lord provides me with an opportunity to harvest meat for my family I will shoot it. I have shot deer with way smaller antlers and they tasted great.

I don't judge a deer by antler points. I judge by the amount of meat I can obtain. I can't eat horns. And I totally agree with Dave Lay.

From: Buckeye
Date: 23-Nov-21

he would do just fine, yes

From: Jeff Durnell
Date: 23-Nov-21

I find more value in other factors than what's on his head, but if the question is, are his antlers big enough to suit me after my other conditions are met? Then yes.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 23-Nov-21

I'm have no shame in admitting, that I am selective about the bucks I shoot.

Trophy hunter, if that's what you want to call it. I'm cool with it.

I can kill a doe (if I want) any time I want to for meat, and I kill pigs all the time.

Meat is easy to come by, and we aren't going hungry by any means.

He will be nice in a couple years. But you could always kill him and call him a management buck

From: Jeff Durnell
Date: 23-Nov-21

Good, just like folks should feel no shame for placing meat, equipment, hunting methods, etc higher in value than antlers.

From: Boker

With a firearm no. With a trad bow yes.

If the shot was there, yes I would!

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 23-Nov-21

To be clear. My decision was made before I made this post.

I intend to shoot him "if" I get the chance.

He's a real good buck for this country in both antler size, and body size.

I just wanted to show him off. :-) :-P

[[[ Jeff Durnell: "Good, just like folks should feel no shame for placing meat, equipment, hunting methods, etc higher in value than antlers." ]]]

Absolutely. I have no problem with any of it. Do what satisfies you, and/or what you feel the need to do.

You're decisions are "none of my business", unless/until they infringe on me personally. Then, and "only then" is when we "might" have a problem.

Since my 3 biggest bucks on camera were killed this year already, Yes

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 23-Nov-21

It always kills me that theses outdoor shows will only kill huge bucks. But when they get a hankering to they call them management bucks or cull deer. Gimme a break. Shoot what you want. I am hunting now on my BIL’s property in the gun season with my bow. I looked at as either I am crazy or an elitist . Killing deer now with all the guns going off with a longbow on the ground is tough to me. Buck or doe. But I don’t look down my nose at people that want to hunt with a rifle.

From: grizz
Date: 23-Nov-21

To be clear, my answer was yes and that meant bow, muzzleloader, gun yes

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 23-Nov-21

I can step out onto my back porch, and take care of business with a rifle at just about any time. That for me is just to easy, so I'm working on it with the bow (for now).

Rick

From: Heat
Date: 23-Nov-21

No doubt about it. I would try to kill that deer for sure. Good Luck Rick and Happy Thanksgiving!

From: Desperado
Date: 23-Nov-21

If I had a clear, broadside shot, and he was not on alert and he was less than 18 yards away (my self imposed distance limit ) I would thank the Lord for the opportunity and expect to double lung him with no hesitation....Happy Thanksgiving !!! Des

Pretty deer either way. You can enjoy taking him on your terms, or enjoy knowing he is still walking around. Either way is a win.

nope

Yes.

From: Rick Barbee

I got to watch a heck of a good show from all the deer around me.

I could have arrowed any one of a dozen, but the buck never showed.

Tomorrow's another day. :-)

Rick

From: Knifeman

Not where I hunt. We call them hater bucks, hate to kill them and end the season, hate to let them go. They always look bigger walking away...

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 24-Nov-21

If I was like you Rick and could kill a small buck or doe anytime I wanted to then I might pass but since I am not, yes I would be glad to have him in range.Good luck on him, hope it goes as planned. Pappy

From: rpk@work

Oh yes, without a doubt.

From: Jeff Durnell
Date: 24-Nov-21

I agree, Rick. It's nobody else's business.

From: rallison
Date: 24-Nov-21

that depends. Is he in range?

From: Pdiddly2
Date: 24-Nov-21

Never had the luxury to hunt deer in a place where I would even consider giving that deer a pass! On the northern edge of their range you get one or two opportunities a season on any adult deer …if you’re lucky.

From: MCS
Date: 25-Nov-21

I would shoot at it. Hitting it is a whole Nother thing.

We have lots cull bucks around here and we are going to put a couple of them in the freezer. We are down to seeing the same seven does and fawns every day.
