I’m not sure what happened in my previous post about the leather wrap but I’ll try another and see If I can post some pictures of the wrap I put on a friends bow yesterday. Put a beavertail sideplate on and made a string for him. Hope the pictures come through . Keefers

Ok those showed up and the wrap is glued on using barge cement all around up to the overlays on the back of bow or where the leather meets the the edge of the back. I have this new small nail type of punch I got at Hobby Lobby that makes a clean small hole just big enough for the leather needle to pass through . I saw Big Jim had one in his “How To” video and I went on a search for one and found one for under $10.00 and I have done two leather wraps with that punch in the last month and love it. I spent the good part of a day tinkering with my friends bow but it’s what I love doing when the wife is away lol. Keefers <‘)))><

WOW!!! Kieth, That is one of the nicest looking leather wraps I’ve ever seen. The stitching is amazing. What leather did you use. Beautiful work my friend.

I have a 6D nail that punches a small hole. Not sure what it cost but somewhere around $2.70 a pound. My problem is getting the hole spacing correct. One of these days I'm going to see, and buy, one of the little roller wheels that marks where to punch.

Thanks for the compliments everyone I appreciate it but I’m still learning as I do them. Now someone asked if I wet it and I did let t soak for a few minutes then patted it dry and sit a while to dry some. Then I brushed my barge cement on and let it tack up some and brushed on some more and gave that a little time to tack up too. I also put glue on the bow handle up to the glass on the back and stopped there. Altitude asked how I got those wrinkles out and while being somewhat wet I started my wrap at the center of the grip and slowly worked the leather into the grip where your web of thumb and first finger would be . I used a aluminum arrow shaft that was cut about 6” and gently rolled out the wrinkles and any bubbles to the edge of shelf plate. I also used a surgeon small scalpel to trim the edges . Now Bg Jim has a video on over lapping the back side that I watched several times on You Tube and that was very good in showing how to trim and punch holes. If folks go check out his video on installing beavertail wraps on a bow you can learn from the pro himself . He makes it look so easy and a great teacher as well.
