I had a freind bring me to bows today one an old Ben Pearson cougar the other a bear cub both are in pretty rough shape he said he would like me to "bring them back to life". I have sanded down bows for myself in the past and put new spray can clear coat on them but was wondering what yall might recommend to do his right and have them looking the best possible when I return them.

You have options depending on what the original finish is like. If you want to remove all the original finish here is a thread I posted in May 2020 that will offer some ideas. There is no one correct way and if you do a search here or visit droptinetraditions.com you will find lots of tips. Rich Lopez - the owner of droptinetraditions, is a master at refinishing and he shares his tips on his site.

Tru-oil on the riser...wipe-on poly on the glass.

It also depends on how much time you want to invest.

Some finish techniques require a pretty substantial investment of time.

Phil's thread is extremely informative. I was thankful for the info he and a few others here like 2 Bears provided when I tackled my first refinish.

Best of luck to you and post some pics of your progress if you'd like.

Find out what Bear and the like use. Whatever it is, it's durable and quick to apply.
