Stringmakers: How many strands should I use to make a B55 Flemish string for some 60 to 70 # recurves? Richard

From: fdp

I use 12 to 14.

Like most things some folks use more and some less.

I'd use 16...b55 is s bit less breaking strength per strand than the old b50. Thats for an endless string. If a 3 bundle flemish use 15.

14 is lots

I don't use B-55 but I do have B-50 that I use now and then and it's 12 strands for me up to 60#....14 over that. That said, I don't shoot 60# bows anymore. I did at one time. :)

12-14---14 being a lot. Ive used as much as 16 strands of B50 on a 70 pound recurve.

Thank you folks. That helps. A few bows came in WAY overweight. Different glass, I guess. Richard

I use 14 strands on my 55# to 60# bows.

I don't know about b55. I used 14 for b50 and 16 above 75.

I use 12 strands Flemish twist for my 60# prairie savage recurve. Like that combo alot.

That's B55

15

I’d use 14 for the 55 tor 65# and 16 for 65# and up, but that’s just me! Lance

14 should be more then enough Richard .

10 strands to 55 lbs,and 12 at 60 lbs.

From: Buhbuh73

Personally for anything over 55 I don't use use under 14 strands but I feel that a 3 bundle 15 strand would be what you want you can adjust the size of the serving to fit the nocks

I keep track of recommendations for stuff like this..So I can look it up easier.

20-25#: 8 B50, 14 FF 25-35# 10 B50, 16 FF 35-40# 12 B50, 18 FF 45-55# 14 B50, 20FF 55-65# 14 B50, 22FF Rough rule: B50 strand count = 8+(Bow Weight - 20)/5 Rough rule: FF/652 strand count = 14+(Bow Weight - 20)/5

Thanks fellas......I ordered a batch of B55 Flemish strings (14 strands) to include with my bows when I ship them. Then I had several bows weigh in in the 55-64# range and I just wasn’t sure the strings were adequate. Thank you all for your input. Greatly appreciated! Richard

When I shot 60 plus pounds, before High Performance Material, I used 15 (3 bundle string) to 16 (2 bundle string) strands of B50. I'd use the same with B55 if it were available at the time. Just what I preferred for strand count. It also gave me a better fit for the 11/32 nocks I use. DANNY
