A fellow on a lever bow forum has this Carroll compound & is wondering if the recurve limbs would fit this riser & if so. What is the availability of recurve limbs for this riser. Thanks

I doubt any chance without a lot of modifications to those limb pockets. Maybe and I mean maybe if he found an old Carrolls recurve for the limbs that might work. After all that bow did start life as a recurve. I remember when those were new.

The recurve limbs I believe do for that riser. They are not quite as scarce as hens teeth, but nearly so.

Ok, I’m not a bow builder/fixer. If someone had the skills, which many of y’all do, take the limbs and remove the wheels and cut the upper portion of the limbs to a kind of point. Cut in some nocks, build a string and git after it! Or, am I stupid. <>< del

Maybe George will pipe in; but I think Wing Presentation TD limbs will fit also.

Well it looks like they utilized the same risers for the compound, so I'm going to say yes...the old Wing P-II limbs or original Carroll limbs will work. Those old limbs show up on Ebay from time to time, and I'll bet some folks here had them too.

You will quickly find that those limbs would need a lot of wood removed to make recurve you could handle, and would also be reversed recurves. Simple to just look for limbs already to mount. I know for a fact that a couple Leatherwallers have them.

I agree with George, they look like they would from what I remember. Smoothest recurve I ever shot!

Yes, the Carroll's recurve limbs will fit the compound riser...it's the exact, same riser as the recurve, with the exception of those two tuning posts. I know, I have that exact same compound bow/riser as well as several Carroll's takedown bows/risers, and they're identical. And with all due respect to George and arrowchucker, the Wing PII limbs do not fit the Carroll's riser...the limb bolt hole spacing is different, as is the curvature of the limb pads and limb butts. It's close, but not the same. You can force the fit, but that will stress the limb butts unless you enlarge the hole(s) in the limb butts and put shims under them, but then the fit will be sloppy. I tried it.

joep003, the Presentation II limbs do fit. If you have some that don't, than it's likely you got a riser that is not a Carroll's but maybe a Zodiac (made in Alabama) after Carroll's went out of the recurve business. The bolt spacing on them was not the same, nor was the curve radius. The Wing will fit on Carroll's...I've done it many times over the years and they always match up.

I should add, that Carroll's and Wing were in "cahoots" as Dad would have said. Bob Lee made those limbs for Carroll's under contract that was company specific. When Carroll's got out of the recurve business, the contract was null and void and no one else had the permission to use the exact design...a wing copyright. My information came from two sources back in the late 70's, both of them worked as company reps for two different entities. The Zodiac showed up after Carroll's closed but the timing was terrible...1975'ish when the compounds were taking over, subsequently it never took off. Two guys from Anniston, Alabama were making that model.

I totally agree with George on this. I have Wing short and long risers and various limbs and Carroll Gentleman Jim and Lewis handles and various limbs and they all interchange. I have never had a problem with holes lining up nor curvature of limb to handle. Decades ago (around 1978) I talked to Buddy Stamper who had worked for Wing for many years and he verified what George said above about Wing making the limbs for Carroll via a contract and that the limbs and handles were interchangeable. That is exactly what I have found over the years.

If you want to try some limbs, while they are not COMMON, they are not too hard to pick up, and generally reasonably priced.
I have picked up a ton of limbs to get risers, below list of some you may be willing to buy for a try. I have shoulder and musculature issues, and need limbs that max out ~32# @31.5”- so mainly on limbs up to ~27#@28”. Below are sets I picked up to get the risers. I have not shot ANY of them as they are past my injury limit.
1. short set, dark- 58"/45# or 62"/43#- condition only fair, some crazing and poor layer of some overcoat finish by a bad worker trying to fill crazing without working at it. They look solid to me, just bad finish. 2. long set, white- 69"/35 or 65" and likely ~37-38# (not double marked). Nice. 3. long set, dark- marked 60#, they are not Wing, I think Carrol but not listed. Very nicely made, I think better than wing original for a hunter. I think they are about 65" and are marked 60#. Very nice to like new. If interested I can measure. 4. Long set, white 64/68", 35/33# very nice condition.
Nothing more than $175. Some on Ebay now as well. If interested do Private message and I will send you picks, specify which set interests you.
My $0.02- Wing limbs are quite a bit less susceptible to stacking than the old Bear takedown limbs, and just seem to feel better. I had a set that made a ~58" bow, which for me is horribly short.. but the stacking was relatively modest vs. my expectations, and vs. what I experience on my B riser and medium limbs.. I am not sure I would try to fix up the old compound or not, but if you do you will likely end up with a very pleasant shooter.

Nope George, they don't fit. I have 5 Carroll's T/D's and 4 Wing PII's and extra limbs for both, and they don't fit each other, unless you force them...not one set fits the other. I wouldn't buy a set of PII limbs hoping they will fit. I've also got a Zodiac...limbs and limb butts on that are completely different than the Carroll's or the Wing.

That's interesting,, I had a long and short riser PII w/hunter and target weight limbs, a friend let me borrow his Carroll's riser and some limbs, never had a problem interchanging them.

I think with some things like this there can be changes, iterations, generations.....I had a first year JD styled tractor that had several UN-styled series parts on it. Kind of hard to say ALL or NONE sometimes.

I recently purchased a Carroll's Lewis takedown riser and so far the 2 sets of Wing PII limbs I have purchased for it have fit no problem. Shoots like a dream at 35 and 39lb.
