I recently started to use two fingers split, instead of three. This is only on my bows #53 & down. I’m doing this bc I was dragging the tip on my bottom finger on the string upon release. I can be more consistent. No problem with heavier bows. Anyone else using only two?

I actually did that for awhile when I had a Kodiak Magnum. Seemed to work really well with that bow.

Several people do and have over the years.

For most people the bottom ginger isn't doing much any way.

I started shooting 2 finger split when I started shooting a 56" longbow to get a cleaner release. Been doing it for several years now.

Shot two fingers (split) for my entire archery life. You get a cleaner release. Back in the day, they used to refer to this as "Apache style"... rare breed

Medieval English archers used only 2 fingers(split)on their bows(and their war bows were around a 100 pound pull weight). They seemed quite successful against the French army with it.

Tried 2 fingers.

Shot great. The second day led to nerve damage from string rolling over joint on bottom of middle finger. I stupidly continued shooting that way for the whole session.

Finger had nerve pain for 2+ weeks.

If it works for you great. If you start to feel nerve pain - stop immediately and dont shoot that way again.

I started 2 finger split about 4 years ago when, after surgery, I had to shoot a 25# bow. I just couldn't get it to shoot straight with 3 fingers. Not enough tension on the string and the string kept twisting.

I haven't gone back to 3 fingers. My shooting has improved partly b/c of that. I can shoot bows up to 60# w/2 fingers... actually I can't shoot any heavier than that with my whole hand!

With bows less than 50#, which includes a lot of bows I shoot at all weights down to 25# or so, almost all the pressure is on the middle finger. Over 50# I shift more pressure to the index finger.

My middle finger got numb a first. I had to use a heavier glove but that didn't solve the problem entirely. I would up cutting a piece of plastic from a plastic beverage bottle. Cut from the conical top area so it's already curved more. Trimmed it to fit inside the finger stall of the middle finger. It works great.

I hadn’t thought of 2 under, I may give that a try.

I shoot two under with a deep hook and really like it. Shot that way for yearsmake my tabs for two under

Dartwick, your experience is something that we are all at some risk for. Particularly in using the deep hook. It can be mitigated with a tab or glove that provides better protection. I make most of my tabs and adjust the thickness according to the draw weight.

When a teen i had a part time job unloading trucks. Some involved boxes of meat that had wire wrapped around them. I got in the habit of picking them up by the wire without gloves. That naturally put a strain on the nerves. My fingers would be numb from it. I wised up and wore heavy gloves. One of the guys I worked with had a much bigger problem and saw a doctor. He was of course advised to wear gloves. Another bit of advice he got was that vitamin K would help the nerves heal.

BUT DON'T LET ME BE GIVING MEDICAL ADVICE. Overdosing on vitamin K can cause problems.

Ya Im sure a thick enough guard will let it work. But for me I can I can shoot pretty much any tab/gloves if I use thre fingers. For me to use 2 finger it would take something really thick.

But I found that I need almost no pressure from the ring finger to protect my middle finger - and when I do that the experience is actually almost the same as using 2 fingers. My ring finger is just there for the ride, it doesnt even line up.

But if 2 fingers is working for you - then great.

I may try that. I haven't shot hardly at all this year due to trigger finger in my ring in my ring finger.
