Hello all,

I hope this post is allowed by the Moderators.

I just wanted to give out a positive mention of foambymail.com I ordered four of their archery foam targets (Polyethylene 24" x 24" x 2", white) and will order four more so I can make an indoor target that will be 4' x 4' and 8" thick. For medical reasons I’ve been away from Traditional shooting for several years, and my shooting is not what it should be and need the extra size to avoid misses.. I have a design for a foam target that will work for me indoors over the Winter so I can keep shooting here in Northern Maine, where it gets very cold with deep snow!

I plan to enclose the foam within a 3/4" pine box open on both sides. Two foam pieces (4" thick) will be separated from the other two foam pieces (4" thick) by a space that will be filled in with old blankets and rags. As constructed, both sides of the target will be useable, and the target will sit on a stand fitted with wheels, so there will be portability.

Sounds like a great target, post pictures when you get it built. I bet it gets cold as a well diggers @$$ up in northen maine! What kind of bow will you be shooting and what range? Have fun and happy shooting!

Sounds good. I suggest casters instead of 'wheels' for ease of moving. Happy shooting!

I use similar foam, it is refuse at my workplace.

Something I realized too late, after I had already shot out my first effort- Plan a removable center piece!

Cut a square, circle or ovals in center and make it replaceable. They sell circles I hear, if you send them a note. You could potentially also buy the oval cylinders and slice off layers (link below.) Or do smaller squares, etc. Alternatively, and this more or less worked for me, you can cut down centerline of a square and flip them to put the shot out portion at the edge. To do this well you aught to have a second layer to the center, and set up layers crossed for support. I was using thinner refuse, so was easy for me. Boy was it messy when I cut this out after the fact- little white stuff everywhere.

Hello,

To clarify and add to my original post . . .

I should've said casters and not wheels . . . I'll be shooting a Mahaska Recurve, Massie Longbow and a Black Widow SA III. All shoot at 50 .LB pull @28" draw. My garage length is only 22 feet, but all I'm trying to do is to get back in shape and restore my anchor point to where it used to be by regular shooting. I've been away from Traditional Archery for several years, as stated before due to medical reasons.

I'll post a photo when I finish building my target; just waiting on the rest of my foam to arrive.

Two Flints, it might be handy if you noted which density and type of foam that you purchased.

I'm using one piece of dense foam and have a piece of mine belting free hanging about 20" behind it with about 4" before wall. The foam is screwed to 2x4 on each side. My foam basically stops arrows before reaching mine belting. Shooting 55# very easy arrow pulling.

I found a 24x24x2 on Amazon for hawk throwing in my man cave the website you mention looks like memory foam mattress material I'm not sure that would work for you

Just found them the other day. Ordered a few 2x2 dense foam archery foam squares today. About $25 each. Free shipping over $75 if I remember correctly.

Would someone be more specific about the foam? There are several kinds and density's. I could not find the 2' X2' X 2" 6 pound or anything for $15 like the video. Thanks. >>>----> Ken

6lb density it states Polyethylene Foam Archery

Greg from 3D archery in that video, said he got his test stuff from foam factory. I thought he said $17 for a 2`x2`x2"

I looked at the foam on that other site, foam by mail,(search for archery) and it looks like the same stuff.

I didnt look for foam factory. It looked kinda hard to pull a arrow out of, but the healing looked good.

Hello all,

I started the frame for my foam archery target. It still needs work as you can see. I will create channels so the foam squares can be dropped in from the top to hold them in place. Just started it and am waiting for the other four foam squares to arrive. I am posting two photos.

Hello,

Thought I'd update my foam target plan . . . 50" square frame. Added a 3/4" rubber mat for center shooting where the foams come together.

From 20 feet away I'm shooting a Mahaska Recurve 50#@28" . . . so far penetration has been about 4"-6" with field tips on 4 fletch feathers and Cedar arrows.

Target has two sides! Need to figure out a way of installing the 3/4" rubber mat as a portable add on for both sides . . . casters on legs of some type for more stability.

Suggestions? Please!

How is it pulling the arrows out? looks good. You could just add a pc of 2x4x12" (or 14-16") on the flat under each end, on each side to mount your casters too.

I had to add some feet to mine to stabilize it, but it just site outside, no wheels.
