Forksville, is a great shoot for a lot or reasons. It's been nonstop since 1957 and is inclusive of all archery sectors. It's run 100% by volunteers who give their time so the county can benefit for the fire companies, scouts, churches, and many other organizations that won't get much funding from out of county.
The entire county of Sullivan is only 6000 +/- population and there is only one traffic light in the county...at Dushore. Forksville is a tiny town in one of the most beautiful areas of the country where the Loyalsock and Little Loyalsock rivers coalesce into one. And, for those of you with a sports history bent, it was the boyhood home of Red Grange.
You won't find any nicer folks around either, and it's largely families in attendance with the kids having an area of their own with close targets and volunteers helping out with the safety aspect as well. Jim Rebuck is usually there if you need some traditional supplies and this year there were some smaller dealers as well selling some used recurves/longbows.
It's crowded, and bustling most of the day, but if you get up early you can get on one of the three mountainside courses without much of a line. If you love to fly fish, the Loyalsock is there....it's rocky and rough but has some nice areas to do some casting.
There are also some very cool little villages about the county that deserve a look as well, and as I said, it's a beautiful area....and for the hunters, the whole area is nearly surrounded by public forest.

Nice shot! I have yet to hit a moving target of any kind at a shoot. My arrow would still be in the woods. Lance

They never had an all traditional shoot at Forksville. It has always been an archery/bowhunter shoot, never genre specific.

Okay, now that you've jogged my memory I even remember talking to Bill Feese about it back then. DUH. Anyway, Phil is correct, not enough help around to make it go. I never did get to those anyway due to work constraints. It was in the spring time, not in September so that's where my brain was stuck. Remember that everything is volunteer over there, not paid workers like ETAR and Sawmill has and I think the fact that ETAR was already in progress for a few years limited the attendance factor as well.

They did have an all-traditional shoot for two years - 1996-1997 years but it was in the spring. They ended it because they had difficulties getting enough people to help put it on.

WE had a great time shooting there on Friday. Friday is a good day to go shoot because it's not as crowded as the weekend. I go every year, but then, I just live 30 mikes down the road.

I didn't shoot at the running deer, and only shot about a dozen arrows total this year. It's a long story so I won't bore anyone. I did find...after some looking...Craig (Monkeyball) as I had something to give him. Was nice taking to him in person and is lovely wife Lori. Talked to several others there and that's mostly what I do anyway at shoots.....talk to folks. I shoot all year so really don't care if I even loose an arrow, although normally I do. :)
