I'm not much for trying new things but I bought a leafy suit to go over my hunting clothes. I made a Ghillie suit but it was way too heavy and bulky. Anyone have any luck or advice?

I've had pretty good luck using a leafy suit on tree stand in early season and still hunting.

I like my leafy suit. The best tip I can give you is to carry it in and then put it on where you plan on hunting. The material is not very briar friendly.

Best of luck to you!

I used leafy suits extensively when I was younger, deer would almost literally walk on top of you. That said, I have two suits and have not used them in 10 years. Don't know why I quit using them. Maybe I will try them this season. Side note: mine are way warmer than they appear, would not want to hike in one. Also, they don't serve much purpose and make you stand out in late season.

I use an ASAT Vanish Pro leafy suit-available on ebay-not too hot, easy to put on once you get to your spot-I agree with Supernaut-NOT something you want to wear on the way in!

Same as this ^^^^

Just the top over a sleeveless tshirt it's so hot here. Also use it for turkey season

I have the one that Big Jim sells.I think it's called bush in a bag. It's a bag with a strap to place over a shoulder then u stuff ghillie in the bag. Very light and easy to put on. Just need to do some adjustments so bow string doesn't snag anywhere.

I really like my leafy jacket and also have a headnet to match. I usually sit so no need for the pants. Like said if in thick stuff carry it. Have had good luck treating it for ticks also. It is hard to draw on a deer under thirty feet though. They just seem to sense something.

I have shot turkeys with a leafy suit sitting in a fold up chair and a few bushes around me. I think they are excellent.

I get spotted in my leafy suit on the ground. Not so in my ranchosafarii ghillie

I have asat version looking forward to using it this fall.

My leafy ASAT suit is awesome ! Wear it most of the season , even in snow , nothing better.

X4 on the ASAT. Works great.

Get a allpredatorcalls.com Kill suit Sapper. They are light weight and really work good. I have had deer inside of 15yd and they never saw me. The price is good too at $69.95

Looks like it'll be easy to carry till I get to my stand.

Home made ghillie suit here, it helps to have something behind you, especially if you expect them to walk by on a trail and may look in your direction. I have been out in the open and they did not like what they saw, so they left before I could get a shot.

When I made my ghillie, I included light colored burlap as well as dark, it worked when I was in 10" of snow.

Have your hands on the bow because you never know when, or where, they will show up. On the ground, even small movements are easier to see.

I hope you have success with your new setup.

I like mine. It will work as a cover up suit and I use it for ground hunting to make "blind walls" to hide behind. They are light enough and pack down small enough to carry out every time.

got a cheapo n it works great in the early season with lots of folige.

From: benzy
Date: 21-Sep-21

Same as gluetrap. Cheapo / Wal Mart leafy suit here. I don't use the pants, they snag everything when walking in, but the top is well worth it.

got one at Menards at the end of season for $14

That's a great price, Where is Menards located at ?

From: Therifleman

Works as well as any ghillie for me. If you get busted wearing a leafy suit or a ghillie you can be pretty sure you set up wrong--- wind, lack of background cover or you moved too much. Of course there are the occasional old does that probably blow at their fair share of bushes and stumps.

Shortdraw- yep, Lawdy turned me on to them last year. It is unreal how effective that thing is. Almost unfair. Almost.

ASAT leafy suit is superb. Ive had songbirds land on my arrow, once had a large group of turkeys stroll in front of me oblivious, and had a doe trot within feet.

From: Shortbow
Date: 22-Sep-21

leafy suits work well. I even wear the top part in a tree. Excellent breakup.

guys wilt the kill suit Sapper, do you have the mesh lined or fabric lined? how hot if you have the fabric lined? Thanks!

From: hawkeye in PA
Date: 27-Sep-21

I have the mesh lined and its not hot.

From: Vtbow
Date: 27-Sep-21

Thanks Hawkeye--They seem to have a bunch of options. I had the rancho safari shaggie longcoat and it was just too bulky and cumbersome. Looks like the sapper is a poncho and then they have a suit. Whiuch do you have? lots of camo options it looks like too... thanks!

From: George D. Stout
Date: 27-Sep-21

Shouldn't a leafy suit look like leaves? That would be a camo pattern. LOL If you're using one in Pa., during squirrel or turkey season, better put a couple strips of blaze orange in the mix.

From: Sawtooth (Original) Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 27-Sep-21

My kill suit is mesh. It gets WAY too hot down here for the fabric lined model. That’s subjective of course.

From: hawkeye in PA
Date: 27-Sep-21

Vtbow mine was relatively inexpensive and is at least 12 years old. I don't wear going through thick stuff including green briars. It will snag on everything. But it's easy enough to put in cargo pocket until I sit down.

From: Vtbow
Date: 27-Sep-21

Thanks guys--Sawtooth and Hawkeye, you both have the sapper(Poncho) style? I"m thinking of ordering one in the woodland. Thanks for all the info!

From: hawkeye in PA

Mine came as 3 piece suit jacket, pull over pants and a headnet.

If you're east of the Mississippi and get the kill suit you might consider getting the tan color. I had a green one and after leaf fall stuck out like a sore thumb. Now have ASAT and always consider wind, sun, and background if you want to kill a deer.

Curve I couldn't agree more. Matching colors or camo patterns with your surroundings is the difference between being seen or getting busted. I've also found that solid greys, olive and brown clothes are sometimes better than camo patterns. One day hunting it got hot and I took my camo jacket off and hung it off a small branch. I took a walk and was surprised that at 100 yards my jacket was clearly a object that stood out and didn't blend in.

I bought this leafy suit because this camo pattern looked like it would blend in where I hunt. All I have to do is break up my silhouette..

From: BigHorn
Date: 29-Sep-21

Ive used and asat suit for several years. I tell new hunters all the time that it's all they need. Just get one of these and use your regular clothes. For how we hunt around here (CT), you really don't need anything else...of course that doesn't stop me from getting all kinds of gear lol.

From: Adam Howard
Date: 29-Sep-21

My dad used one in Md archery only area, very effective, it’s not just another camo, it actually moves with the wind and breeze, and the break up is great, not just a blob, I still have it, to small for me, but if ya really wanna blend in and look more natural than anything else, they are extremely effective

This post has me shopping for a suit Anyone have the North Mountain Leafy Suit? Looks really good and only $81 after 5% discount code

From: lawdy

My killsuit sapper is mesh lined. My winter sapper is fabric lined. I prefer the mesh lining, it’s totally silent and cool. Had a couple of chickadees land on my shoulder and head this evening. One thing they are good for is running across a back road with a car coming at night. It was all over town that someone definitely saw Sasquatch run across a logging road.

Well you all are getting me in trouble with my wife again. After talking myself in and out of purchasing so many times I lost count, you all finally convinced me to order a killsuit sapper. Supposed to be here in 8 or 9 days. Any viable excuses you can help me come up with before it shows up on the front porch would be appreciated lol.

Bent stick - A good excuse around my house is that my occasional big delivery balances out her damn near daily small deliveries.

Basinboy, I have the North Mountain leafy suit and really like it. It comes with a nice stuff sack for packing in and out. I can wear it over shorts and a T shirt when it's hot outside.
