I am a seamster and have been constructing hunting jackets, packs, bedding, blankets, clothing, etc. for years. My HD German-made HD sewing machine finally gave out after 30 years and no one locally can fix it. I purchased a new machine and am experimenting with it to see how it compares with my old Pfaff.

I decided to break down my heavy-duty USMC transport bags and use the material to construct other gear. The fabric is a heavy-gauge canvas, similar to military canvas tarps. It’s extremely tough and water resistant. I bleached out the fabric colors to obtain a neutral color.

Using heavy fabrics and constructing these bucket/dome hats (not just linear/straight sewing) is a good test. These hats are not perfect, but getting better. Doubt you will detect the flaws. This hat is a domed/pinnacle hat and has double-stitch seams. If you were to somehow hang your weight on the hat, it will not tear or come apart at the seams. :)

JUST POSTING “IN” IS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED TO ENTER. PREVIOUS DRAWING WINNERS ARE ELIGIBLE.

DRAWING ENDS AT 21:01 AM (CST) – THURS SEPT 23.

PS: Made and used a XL/L pattern believing that the 1/4”-1/2” sewed seams would considerable reduce the fitting size. Surprisingly it didn’t. It’s large.

Forgot to mention that this hat comes with a lucky Talisman sewn onto hat. If wearing while hunting make sure you have a block-n- tackle and gutting knife with you. :-)

I guess I need the talisman more than the hat, because my head’s not big enough for a Large.

Have to let some swell-headed feller have that one ;)
