Thats kind of like asking "How fast will my car go when I push the throttle to the floor" NOT enough info.

I used a alum 2216 with that weight, but my broadhead was less

Blackeagle Rampage are great arrows that don’t break the bank. They come in a 300 and 250 spine I have a few customers that love these shafts and there durability There are lots of options out there enough to make your head spin

I’ve been looking at spine charts and can’t figure out what spine would work with 250 grains up front for that weight of bow seems the charts don’t go that far

I’m guessing something in the neighborhood of .250-.300 spine

Depending on your arrow length and what bow you using My guess would be a 250 if your using a cut to or paste center recurve like a Black Widow But if it a longbow like a Hill Style bow you my only need to go to a 300 or even 340 lots Variables come in to play when you’re trying to pick out the best arrow for your set up

Ross, I suggest you go to 3riversarchery website, and use their dynamic spine calculator. No, it's not a pita. It's easy to use and will get you a good spine. You do need to input accurate info. Also, I've found playing around with the calculator inputs gives you an understanding of what effects what.

The Stu/3rivers calculator is a pita. Nuff said.

RWC -

It's lets pick on the OP day ;).

You're shooting a 70# bow, and want to use a 250 grain head. Well good for you.

What's you're previous experience?

Have you shot, say a 60# bow with that weight head? What did you use for that?

Have you shot a different 70# bow, or the same bow with a 125 grain head?

Do you know how to shoot a recurve?

Sorry, we don't know anything about you or the bow.

The issue I'm having is that to shoot a 70# bow effectively, you should have a pretty good number of arrows down range. With that usually comes with some experience and maybe a guess as what to use with the new bow. The fact that you gave absolutely no information other than the bow's draw weight and head weight raises the same red flag.

Ya know, you could just use the arrows you have and try some formal tuning with them. Assuming the only arrows you currently have aren't for a 25# bow, that alone will tell you what direction and how far you should go.

Here's a hint: for every 100 grains you add to the head of an arrow, stiffen the spine number by 100 (0.100"). Ex: if you need a 400 spine with 150 grs up front, and go to 250 grs, you'll need a 300. Ball park, but works.

Viper out.

Wood, aluminium, carbon? Hickory, fir, 2219 or cx350 is where I would start.

No sure what your asking for, I am figuring spine if so I can’t help you there because your obviously more msn than me to be shooting a 70lb.

However if your looking for brand recommendations I can tell you what I like.

Aluminum - Easton xx75 (the only real choice) Wood - Sure wood fir. Carbon- black eagle. Not the prettiest but they have worked out great for me. The outlaws fly great.

Tony said what I was thinking… If you gotta ask, chances are real, real good that you’re in WAY over your head with #70.

If you ask that question without specifying arrow length, it’s pretty much a lock.

Nothing wrong with being new to this; everyone here started in the same place.

But there’s just ZERO reason to start in with #70 (and about a million reasons to start at half of that) and bows from #50 on up simply don’t need a high-FOC arrow to be lethal. You might end up there if you shoot carbons, just as a matter of making enough weight to keep the bow well-mannered, but…. Just as an example, I shoot aluminum with 125 grain points at about the same all-up weight as carbons with 200 grain points. I don’t need the FOC, but I chose a carbon shaft of a spine rating which requires a heavy point to have all of the variables add up to Tuned AND about 8.5-9 GPP…. at my desired arrow length.

Anyway… If you were to provide information regarding make/model of the bow and what type of string you are using (fiber and strand count), and your actual draw length and net draw weight, and how long an arrow you prefer and what you are using for a rest and/or side plate… somebody here can get you really close to what should be tuned for your bow…

But only if you can actually shoot it.
