I paper tune (have for years) and at 6-10 feet from the paper I am getting a 1/2 inch tear Tail right (stiff) with the aluminum shaft I am shooting. Do you think 1-1.5 inches added to the arrows overall length of the aluminum shaft, I will get it to shooting bullet holes or a slight left tear (which I prefer). Yes I know I can do it myself then check. Just looking for opinions as to whether this would do it or go 2 inches longer for arrow length to weaken it where I want it. I am not changing point weight, I figure 225grs up front is enough, and I am shooting an ASL bow. Thanks for your opinions. DANNY

I would think an inch would be plenty, if it’s that close a half inch might due it

Danny -
2" of shaft length = about 10# of dynamic spine or 0.10" deflection. I would start with 1" and work accordingly.
Viper out.

Not to disagree with Tony in any way, shape or form…
But would you be willing to consider going to a slightly lighter (spine) shaft? Or maybe a higher performance string?
I guess it depends whether you already own uncut shafts in the spine that you’re using. But it’s just so much easier to take length off than to put it back on!
Sooooo many ways to skin that cat.
Good luck with it, Danny!!

Try moving the paper out farther. ALumium tends to exhibit archers paradox a bit longer than carbons. FWIW, I gave up on paper tuning, even compounds, some time ago. I go right to bare shafts weighted with tape to match fletching weight.

How much tape do y’all use to match 3 feathers? I don’t have a scale sensitive enough to weigh it myself.

"ALumium tends to exhibit archers paradox a bit longer than carbons"
Don't you mean the flexing of the arrow? That aluminum is slower to recover from flexing than carbon.
