No he is one of the people that have succeeded leaving sapwood on Osage. It’s all one piece of osage.

Here is a photo of my Hickory attempted self bow. I hit a bad area and was advised to back it with rawhide, which I did using deer skin.

In my eyes most of that type bows are flatbows. English longbows are about the only all wood bows you see that are as thick and narrow as asl's.

GLF, I am working on an iron wood self bow that will be rounded similar to the English longbows with no arrow rest, I just love that type of bow. When I get the arrow laying on my hand my accuracy goes up. Seems more natural than an arrow rest.
If I could just get my hands on some Pacific Yew about 80 inches long I would love to try an English longbow.
