Hey guys I put up a video on my YouTube of rawhide backing the last longbow I built. Same bow as the last video, but this focuses only on the rawhide backing portion. Its short and to the point showing what I did and talking about why and how I do things the way I do. The hide is from a whitetail I shot in 2019, I fleshed and dehaired it myself.

I backed my osage selfbow with rawhide from my son's first deer he took with a longbow at age 12. he is 38 now and the rawhide looks great still.Whitetail rawhide is the way to go IMHO.

That's pretty cool Doug. Yeah it's a good material. The first one I did was a headache, but this last one from one of my'20 bucks went pretty smooth. I have enough to do a few bows now. I put the hide in a tote full of water for a few days, and add ice to keep it from rotting. I try to time it so when I have time to work the hide the hair is slipping enough that I can pull it out by hand, then use my fleshing knife remove a bunch in a hurry.
My wife was gone the weekend I did my last one. When she came she was like "wow that garbage is stinkier than normal!" lol
