Been back to shooting trad since 03. went the custom route and now back to vintage, Just something about old wood. I still have a couple of customs, but the oldies are awesome to shoot. My browning Explorer II is one of my favorites.<><

Most of my stuff is vintage. I do have a 2015 Sage that my wife bought me, but most of my others are decades old. That is the great thing about a niche sport like ours; plenty of used gear.

I don’t shoot it too often, but I have a ‘67 Thunderbird that shoots way better than I do, near as I can tell. And I suppose my first bow just about counts as Vintage.... Bought her new in ‘90. But that might suggest that I’m getting a bit “vintage” myself.... so that’s a non-starter. ;)

Tried and true. Old bows, old Land Cruisers, old shotguns, old audio equipment.....

Lots of snow and cold doesn't stop me. Today I shot my 1971 Groves GS300 TD using 1960's micro flites. Old is good. When the weather is decent I'll shoot 6 - 7 different bows every week. Since I have about 70 high end target recurves, I have plenty to choose from. Some of my favorites are: Dickies Fireball, Morris Challenger Custom Deluxe, Star Holiday, Hit Shooting Star, Blackhawk Galaxie Apollo, TriState Jaguar, Howatt DelRey, Root Pendulus, Tice & Watts Master, Diamond Coronation, Carrolls Lewis, Darton Electra, Smithwick Citation, and a Fasco Decathalon just to name a few.

Nearly all of mine are vintage. I love shooting my Schulz made HHA Big 5, my Schulz American Longbow, and my Shakespeare Super Necedah, just to name a few. The only bow I have that is of recent manufacture is an ASL, made by Todd Henck, that I recently purchased used from a fella. I haven’t even had the chance to shoot it. I’ve never ordered or purchased a new bow. I love older bows and equipment. I like to ponder about who, what, when, and where, they were used in the past and then I get to add to their story by using them now.

When I got my first "real" vintage bow 11 years ago, a Kodiak Special Deluxe, I was in love. I didn't have any other bows in a weight I could shoot then, so I was shooting it a lot. A friend who was one of my first mentors suggested that I get a modern bow for every day shooting, and just shoot the KSD once in a while. To help insure its longevity.
I took his advice to heart. Half of it, anyway. I got more vintage bows. Then more. And more. So I don't shoot any one bow very much. But I'm almost always shooting a vintage bow. Mostly from the late 1950s to early 1960s.
This is one of my favorites. A 56" 1960 Kodiak. 36# @ 26". I usually prefer longer bows but this one may be my best shooter. This Robin Hood is from 50 yards.

I sold or gave away all my vintage bows over the years, I loved them all, now regretting parting with them, the largest reason was the high poundage was wearing me down. Sixty to eighty pound bows takes someone larger than my physique to shoot a lot.
Been thinking about picking up some old bows.
My favorite from the past not in any order.
Borders Griffon II GL
Bear Tamerlane
Damon Howatt Black Mamba
Had a couple Hill bows, mixed opinion.
I still use a back quiver even for target shooting, I still love my hill glove except due to arthritis can't use it much.
Been in too much pain lately to even shoot the first shot. Not giving up.

Thanks GF. This is one of those rare bows that just always shoots where I want it to. Larry St. Laurent restored it. He's the only other person I know who has shot it. He said it's a 1 in a million bow. "You just don't want to put it down." Of course, it doesn't hurt that it's beautiful.

No pics...favorites a 1961 Bear Polar, (yellow glass, zebra wood), a Bear Kodiak 1970 vintage, and a Wing Nighthawk with green glass I bought for my birthday in 1970.

I shoot the bows hanging in friend's father's dens I lusted after as a kid. Though there's a ringer in these images that is only 30 years old. ;-)

I have many vintage bows, my 1953 Bear Kodiak K-4 being the oldest. If you don't have some you are missing out, plenty of great vintage bows. I think any ASL should count as a vintage bow too.

My newest bow is a Black Bear cut for ILF limbs, along with two Wing Vantage Pro 62", a Damon Howatt Hunter 1973. I've thought about a new custom but I can't see it being any better than what I already have.

I'm getting a Ben Pearson Spoiler this week. I believe it's a 1970 version 52 inch 55lb draw. I think I can draw it, if not I may have a drawing.

I had a 55lb Spoiler but it became too heavy for me so I slid it. I still have one in 45lbs. Of all the short recurves I’ve had the Spoiler is a favorite.

Just retired a ‘73 Black Bear RC after hearing some ticking in the upper limb. Think I got my 29.00 worth of fun from it! Thought about replacing it with another vintage but got a Black Hunter Elite to try instead.

I pulled 2 Pearsons off the rack, 62” Colt & 60” Renegade. They’re both 50 plus years old. They are both so fun to shoot. I’m lucky to have many vintage bows.

I really like that Safari II, they don't come along in the proper left handed form that often though.

My 1966 69" 38# Bear Kodiak Special is one of the smoothest shooting bows I've ever had. Not to mention one heck of a nice looking bow.

I predominantly shoot a Moosejaw Razorback, but still play with my Big River bows, my MOAB, and many others. Mostly, longbows with a little kink in the limbs.

Been shooting board and selfbows, had an all yew cheetah that was an old bow shot a lot of Damon Howatt Martin bows. Hill bows and just picked up a Ben Pearson. I want an English longbow, maybe.
