The Talon Thumb tab, Roger Henrie

I just bought one but haven't tried it yet so can't really give a review.

You might try a Talon wrist tab, or his thumb tab. They help take weight off the fingers.

I have a Wilson Straptab, I used it with my target bows up to 42 pounds. I had to build out the tab for the heavier target bows, but it worked. I also have around here somewhere a caliper mechanical release. I let an older shooter experiment with it. with some trial and error, adding a rubber brush button to the string helped him find a repeatable anchor point. That worked for him, so he gave my mechanical release back and bought one just like it. I have used it on bows up to 90 pounds, when I injured my right hand middle finger. It makes a metallic click when the trigger is touched, but apparently I heard it more than anyone around me.

I build my own out of heavier 7-8 oz leather. Seems to work for these old joints. Took a few shots the other day with a thin tab and am still feeling it.

Bringing this back to life for a little bit. I just got in and decided to make my own similar to the Talon. I had enough ends and pieces to create a prototype anyhow. Due to the finger injury I am still working through some other opportunities to keep shooting. The caliper release is still giving me fits trying to get desired arrow flight. the arrow flight is a lot better since some of you shared information, but still seeking a solution.

You might mark off an arrow shaft and get someone to video you from the side as you draw the arrow to your anchor point. That way you can tell what your actual draw length is with the release. My guess is that your draw will be much shorter and will need a weaker spine.

Another option is to go to a wrist caliper type release if all else fails, but that is not what you asked.

Guys, Thanks for the input but the caliper release and me just are not getting along. Arrow flight is closer to okay, but I am not getting desired results. Funny part I am drawing slightly longer with the release. I have some 28.5" arrows, nock groove to Base Of Point. Usually there is some arrow sticking out infront of my hand, as my draw is pretty much 27". With the release the base of the point is touching my finger. Not sure why, but it feels good at anchor, so I am going to go with it. Tuning has been WAY different. Actually needing stiffer arrows, and also it seems that I need to knock at -0-, not the slightest above level. Several modifications to the Talon style strap and I will be shooting again momentarily. Some arrows from my dual shelf Polar last night in the lights behind my shop looked promising with the strap. Any other suggestions, please keep them coming.

If you have not tried Voltarin, I would give it a try. Works for me.

Tried them all and went to a Yost double leather target tab, so far so good also switching to 3 under helped me.

Earlier this year, I could barely shoot due to arthritis in my hands. Completely stopped eating sugar and carbs, and my hands are back to normal. Just like magic!

My Black Widow tab adjusts so I can wear light gloves and still use the tab.

Thumb ring ? Are back tension release. When I shot releases I found best results with a true ball thumb release.

Kinda unusual but people have been finding relief with green lipped mussels. Cold pressed and freeze dried, both.

Bit of arthritis but I'm still ok with Bateman cordovan. Ibuprofen or naproxen when shooting a course.

Same issues here. I can’t shoot my 50” bow anymore and may be switching to three under. Which is easier on your fingers, split or three under?

From: DanaC

Shooting a 50 inch bow 3-under is gonna hurt! Or do you mean 50 pounds?

I draw 27-point-something inches, shoot a 62 inch bow 3-under no problem. Can shoot 60 inches okay. Shorter, I'd want to be shooting split, but my bows are all 60 inches or more. Poundage bothers my elbows more than my hands. jmo-ymmv

DanaC - it’s a 50” bow at about 37# Fedora Stalker. I can’t shoot it worth a darn because arthritis and consistent finger pressure just dint go together. Just tried theee under today on my Sierra Blanca Thunderbolt and actually liked it! Easier on my fingers and groups tightened up. Been avoiding three under for a long time, definitely louder but a more consistent release.

Try raising your nock point, and moving your string silencers around some. Equal draw pressure on index and middle fingers.
