Well, here is the Sanders Classic target recurve i aquired last Fall. I did all the sanding required and then enlisted the services of a young Amish man who is a very adept cabinet maker. He did the finish spraying for me. And he did a excellent job. He charged me $25 dollars and i made him take a five dollar tip.

That is a handsome bow. You never see Sanders bows like this, at least I don't. I like that you can see red accents. It looks center shot as well. Nice job!

That came out extra nice Scotty. Sanders was known for their forward thinking and multilaminated riser designs. They were out of Cortland, NY. I had one once that had 27 laminations in the riser. That one there is a beauty and probably stacks at 38" draw. 8^)))))

As a side note, and Scotty knew this guy as well...The sporting goods store on Sanner Street, in Somerset. That guy had many old Sanders recurves there from the cheapest to the fanciest. This was back in the 80's, and he wanted crazy amounts for them. Fact is many of them were already starting to delaminate from no heat in the winter to hot summer days in the shop. When he passed away, his kids carried boxes out of there to the landfill. It was enough to make a guy cry. He also had a stand up, cardboard cutout of Fred Bear, and I heard it also got sent to the dump.

I had a RH Saunders Classic about 10 years back, and remember trying to find a suitable shipping box to handle that very pronounced shape! Had the bow been a lefty, I would still have it.
Scott, your cabinet maker friend did a beautiful finish on your bow. Possibly will have to take a ride up your way in the future: I have a couple bows that deserve the care yours received.
Are you taking Miss Sanders to Denton?

Very nice looking bow. From the glass color I'm guessing 1960 or 1961. I just did a Hunter and it had probably the same glass on it. The color appears exact.

George and i traded a Sanders 6 Gold baci and forth. It had one of the most comfortable handle on a bow that i can rember. BTW there is one on the big auction.

George, i remember that sports shop very well. The guy that owned it lost his one arm in a coal mining accident. He and my Grandfather worked in the coal mines together. I called him the "one armed bandit". He wanted a hogs price for everything. Everything was old but new, never used. The place was heated by the biggest potbelly stove ive ever seen. I always gravitated towards the large wooden bow rack, full of bows. Some good, some not so. I do remember a 50lb Pearson Javelina thst wad in near fine shape. I ended up buying a Browning Backpacker. And George is correct, soon as you walked in, there stood Fred Bear.

Yeah looks great a testament to the time and care you took in sanding. I hate to say it, but I always seem to run out of patience and later regret not going the extra mile prior to applying finish. A beauty!

This is my Sanders Classic. Took it to my local archery club to shoot the 300 target. It's a butter smooth draw, believe me.
The sanding the old finish is a patience thing, but I enjoy it.
