We've all seen times that folks use HTML tags here for italics, bold or to embed links.

Pat posted on the Bowsite main forum that this is not permitted. Here is his post -

"We don’t allow people to embed html tags into their posts. Two reasons: if you don’t close your tags properly the entire topic gets bolder or underlined, etc. It can also be used for malicious attacks.

If we see it, your post will be removed."

Sometimes it's the only way to display something in a way to make it easily accessible, and more user friendly.

Example: Members ads they can't find.

( I won't do it again. )

As far as "malicious attacks" are concerned: This site is very vulnerable in many ways. Deleting posts with html tags isn't going to make it any less so. You can't work that fast.

It's unfortunate. Sad really. I love this place. I wish Pat would just fix it.

What are html tags?

[[[ "What are html tags?" ]]]

Charley, (simply put) it's the coding used to display web pages, and/or calls for display of instances within them.

Would I know if I did this? Is it something one has to intend to do?

Charley, it pretty much has to be intentional.

Don't let it worry you.

You definitely cannot do it accidentally.

With all the vulnerabilities of this old site, I would think that nuking a properly coded post would be an awfully low priority… and honestly, I think that when it’s done correctly, it makes a post vastly more readable….

I agree Corax.

Maybe it should be suggested, that only improperly coded html be deleted.

You can't stop it from being inject, so someone with ill intent is going to do it regardless of the rule.

As I stated above - You can't work fast enough to stop it. No one can.

The only way to be protected from attack from it, is to remove the ability to do it. Of course, that would take some editing of the site.
